A small local hardware store opened in what was then a rural suburb of San Francisco in 1955. It grew as it went through 3 moves in a 1-block area. It is now one of the very few local nurseries in town. They have friendly, knowledgeable staff and it is a delight to shop for plants in their new covered nursery. This weekend they have a 25%-off sale, but even without that they have great prices. If you don't come to Fremont regularly, but want to shop for plants, this is worth the trip!
I can't comment on mail order because I have only purchased locally. I saw one comment about shipping costs, and I do understand how difficult it is to ship live plants such as she has. I enjoy the variety of plants. Annie always seems to find something new. Even if you can never go there, sign up for her e-mails. They are to drool over. My wife calls this kind of stuff "plant porn," but as a quilter, she gets "fabric porn."
