Calif_Sue's blog: Bright stars in the garden

Some plants, no matter what angle you take your photos in the garden, always draw attention to themselves. My best rose, Rose (Rosa 'Gebrueder Grimm'), never fails to impress and I seem to talk about it a lot in my blog and for good reason. It is a fantastic bright color, has healthy shiny deep green foliage and repeats several times a year with large trusses of blooms. You can see it in the first and third image below as well as sprinkled throughout past blog posts. As usual, click images to enlarge.

My biggest attention grabber is Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia'). I planted it 2 years ago from a 5 gal. pot and this year it seems to have hit it's stride and really taken off in growth. It will eventually get quite large so really will be a show stopper against the green in the background. Many online reports say it can be a problem with self seeding but I see several around town and so far have not noticed this as a problem. We'll see.

Another attention grabbing rose that is new in my garden this year is Rose (Rosa 'South Africa') and currently I have several huge glowing clusters of blooms! It's still in it's 5 gal. pot, now rooted into the ground, so I think I better get this one planted soon!
