I live in the northeast part of Louisiana. Most people do not know that the culture as well as flora and fauna is widely diverse depending on your location in this state. My interest range is a wiggly trail too. My biggest interest after family and friends is my yard. Of course I don't profess to be a great gardener becuse I am not. I enjoy watching things grow until the heat gets in the triple digits or down below 50. I guess you could safely say I am a fair weather gardener. I also like to photograph whatever passes through the lens of my camera whether it be flora or fauna. I am definitely a novice at this too. I don't have the self discipline to better myself at either hobby. Instant gratification is definitely my thorn in side. I over plant then have to redo because I like it pretty now! I have given up on organising my beds because mother nature is the ultimate rearranger. If it isn't the heat, flood, drought, it is the wildlife changing my design. I live directly on the banks of the beautiful Ouachita river that sometimes gets way out of bounds. We also have a camp on Davis Island which was created by the old Miss river bed. Between these two places I am able to see many different types of wildflowers and wildlife. I do hunt but we have very strict rules as to what and how many can be harvested each year. We are always under a wildlife management plan mapped out by a local wildlife biologist. He helps us to maintain heathy herds of deer and turkey. Of course mother nature takes a whack at it all every few years, although this year was the first time in my lifetime that the entire island was under water. The wildlife is returning slowly, but it has just been too hot to get out and shoot many pictures. I really want to do a story board for the Communal Hunting Camp with photos of the birds that migrate through the Island and stay all year. I spend a lot of time teaching my grandchildren to observe what is all around them. Hopefully our place will be passed down the line so they might be able to teach their children to appreciate the outdoor world around them.
