Well, I promptly forgot about this so I'll try again. It has gotten really cold here in Iowa, so most of my outdoor gardening is done. My chives and parsley are still going strong, so I can still harvest those. My sempervivum, jovibarba, and variegated mugwort are all looking nice outdoors. Should I cover them with mulch before it snows? I know they're all hardy but I'm not sure if I need to do anything else to them.

My indoor plants are still going strong. I sowed some curly Epiphyllum seeds a couple of weeks ago. They haven't germinated yet but supposedly they can take quite a while so I'm not worried yet. I got a Vicks plant from one of my friends. It smells so good! I'm hoping to have cuttings that I'll be able to send to other people. It's a cute plant too, and soft and fuzzy.

I've already bought most of my seeds for next spring. I have two kinds of corn to try for the first time. It will be weird growing them in pots but I'll give it a shot. I also have two kinds of green beans (well one of them is purple), two kinds of tomatoes, two kinds of basil, marjoram, and dwarf sunflowers. I might try lavender again too. My deck will definitely be crowded, so I might have to put more of my plants out front. Maybe I'll put all my flowers there.

I do have room for at least one more grow light indoors, so I might get another and make some room. The problem is that I can't really put tall plants underneath a shop light on a shelf, so it works best for small plants like cacti and succulents.

First blog post on ATP

I didn't realize this was a thing, so I guess I'll try to keep everything updated here. I have an online presence several other places, so no promises that everything will be updated here.

I'm a container gardener at present. I live in a townhouse and have no yard, so I have to garden in containers. I have both indoor and outdoor gardens. Eventually I would like to have my own business in seeds, plants, and produce. I'm currently in graduate school but once I'm done I'll be getting my Master Gardener's certification and looking for a home with adequate room for my gardening needs. I'm also going to try and get a community plot next spring but they fill up quickly so I'll need some luck!

In regards to my other online presences: my main blog is cherokeealex.blogspot.com. I write mostly about gardening but also about other parts of my life. I also have a myFolia page, which is http://myfolia.com/gardener/Volker_gardening. You can also find me on facebook, although most of my stuff is set to private. If you want to talk to me there, send me a friend request with a message letting me know you're a gardener from ATP so I don't delete you.
