I second what Don has already written about "Epic Tomatoes: How to Select & Grow the Best Varieties of All Time" in his review and would like to add the following:

I have known Craig for many years (close to a couple of decades now?!?!?!) and can attest to his qualifications for authoring a book on this subject. He is a hands-on researcher with decades of experience working with tomatoes.

"Epic Tomatoes" covers so much material, you will probably not be sitting and reading from cover to cover at one sitting. Although it is a comprehensive reference on the subject of tomatoes, Craig's writing style is easy (fun) to read. I enjoyed reading his personal journey and how he developed his interest in tomatoes, as well as the backgrounds and histories of the varieties that he highlights.

On top of the histories and recommendations that Craig presents, every other topic is covered in this one book -- Biology, planting, growing, harvest help, troubleshooting tips, breeding tips, seed saving info, and more.

I give it a solid thumbs-up! Thumbs up

EPIC TOMATOES or How To Select & Grow the Best Varieties of All Time, by a recognized expert responsible for several of the most popular open-pollinated tomato varieties, is the most complete volume on tomatoes I have read. Lavishly illustrated, it starts with the origins and anatomy of the tomato, moves on to Planning, Planting, Growing and Harvesting, and includes chapters on Saving Seeds, Breeding your own varieties, and Troubleshooting pests and diseases. His answers to many of the usual questions about tomato growing shoot down many myths, and his listing of resources includes a table of 250 recommended varieties. Highly recommended. Also in paperback or eBook.
Along with Carolyn Male's book on Heirloom Tomatoes, this will become a staple of my garden library.
