Many ideas for recycling plastic jugs are already in our Gardening Ideas. Here are a few more.
*Cut off the bottom and place the entire top over plants you don't want to hit when spraying weed killer.
*For a cloche or mini green house, cut off the bottom and place entire top over the plant.
*Put a pin hole in one corner near the bottom, hang above a plant and allow water to drip into the plant slowly.
*Cut them into strips to make plant tags.
*To avoid rust on small garden hand tools, cut off top of jug, fill with sand, add some oil, and place your small hand tools in the sand.
*Cut upper part almost in half, leaving a hinge to create a compost container. It can be kept handy under the sink.
*Create a water wall: on a warm day fill with water and place several next to a tender new plant in the garden. The sun heats the water during the day. You can place a plastic cover or old sheet over them at night. The plastic or cloth does not touch the plants as it is over the jugs and the plants stay warm in the little tents
*Use inside a mini green house as a passive solar collector. You can use as is, filled with water. The sun warms the water during the day and keeps the plants warm at night. The jug can also be painted black to attract more heat.
*Cut off the top and use as a Hypertufa mold for a small pot.
*Pot glides – cut off the flat bottom and place under edges of heavy pots to slide easily across carpet.
