Don't Throw Broken Pots Away!

Some people simply cannot dispose of anything unless it is completely "useless," including broken pots. I throw them away only when their bottoms are broken, but I throw them into a pile and use the pieces to line the bottoms of pots when I am re-potting. When a pot breaks at the brim or above the top half but the bottom half is still good, I continue to use it, after trimming it carefully with pliers to bring it into reasonable shape. These pots can be handy as seed pans, but here I have used them to grow rain lilies, as you can see in the picture.

The shallower ones can be used as seed pans. but pots with some reasonable depth can be used to grow bulbs or to hold any small plant temporarily until it finds a regular place.

Here are some other deeper pots I could save. I have already planted rain lilies in them, except for the one on the extreme left, which is a ready seed pan.
