Make composting easy for everyone in the family to participate. Put a small attractive compost bucket next to the kitchen sink. With a composting bucket close at hand, you can catch each banana peel and all the coffee grounds.

There are all kinds of composting buckets on the market today and I have found them to be nice, but maybe a bit more pricey than you want to spend. I buy ice buckets at the local thrift stores. There are usually several to choose from for only a few dollars. They are an attractive way to keep your compost until you have time to carry it outside. Look for one with a tight fitting opaque lid and a loop handle for easy one-hand carrying. I chose this pretty copper one not thinking about the double handles until the first time I carried it out to the compost pile.
