Summer is coming, with longer days and hotter temperatures. June is still a great month for honey bees, but they may not produce as much honey as the days get hotter.

June has an abundance of plants for honey bees to forage from.  The hotter temperatures of summer will slow the honey storage down as some worker bees are delegated to fetch water to cool the hive.  Beekeepers will help them out by providing clean, fresh water nearby.

June plants for honey bees include these plants.

In most areas swarm season is ending, though honey bees will continue to swarm until it's time to get ready for winter.  Gardeners will need to keep an eye on their water features during the hot days of summer.  Bird baths, swimming pools, ponds and other water sources will be visited by honey bees in search of water to cool the hive as well as for their own use.
