Instant Daylily Garden by Moving Clumps

I wanted to move daylily clumps in my backyard to expand my veggie garden space. So I decided to create a new daylily garden bed in my front yard using the clumps for an instant effect.

First I cut back the foliage and cleaned up the clumps in the area to be moved.

Then I moved into the front yard and started digging out plants from the new area. I tossed the Azalea and most of the roses that were doing poorly here. I did save a few of them and replanted them in other rose beds.

Making my instant daylily garden was fairly easy after everything was cleared out. I simply dug clumps from the backyard and lined them up in the new bed. I just set them where I wanted to plant them. Once I had all the clumps dug and moved, I made sure I had everything spaced correctly. Then I just started planting.

Afterward I mulched with straw to give the area a finished look and watered well.


This is what it looked like after I was finished.


Here you can see the finished area in a view from farther away, taken from my front porch. I am looking forward to this daylily bed blooming this summer.
