Each fall I use the abundance of free leaves to heavily mulch my daylily gardens before the winter.

Mulching your garden beds helps keep down the weeds, holds in the moisture, and enriches the soil. By mulching in the late fall, I take advantage of an abundant free resource. And come early spring, my daylily beds are ready to spring to life and growth. The leaves acting as mulch last till the following fall, when I repeat the cycle all over again.

Daylily beds look nice and neat after folliage is trimmed and the fall leaves are spread around and between each clump.

It even works on hilly slopes. This is the daylily bed on the hill next to my driveway.
