I love to have a nice container on my porch. Even if I don't have much company, I enjoy it each time I come home.

I have a large pot on the porch by my kitchen door. I keep a variety of things in it throughout the year and I just made a fall arrangement. My son has a large holly plant with berries, so I cut some of it. I have Oregon grape and a wild rose, which has large clusters of hips this fall, and friends have crabapples, both red and yellow, and a hawthorn with red berries. Look around and see what you can find. After Thanksgiving I will remove most of the yellow crabapples and add more red rose hips and some conifer for Christmas. By New Year's the arrangement will be dry but still attractive, but I will discard it. In February or March there will be potted primroses, which I will use in the container. On freezing nights I will carry it into the house..
