Often when I buy a new Amaryllis Bulb it has crisp dry roots. Here is a way to give the bulb some help in starting.

Sometimes a nice, firm, newly purchased Amaryllis bulb has good fresh roots. At other times the bulb is great, but the roots are dry and break off easily. Those dry roots are not a problem. Soak the base of the bulb for a few hours in some nice warm water before planting, and that will encourage roots to begin growing.
