With almost 200 orchids and lots of other plants, I am always running out of room and looking for creative ways to hang more plants.

I almost never have enough room for all the plants I want to hang. My orchids love having the air circulation that hanging provides, and some of the other plants are far too long to put on a shelf (I'm running out of shelf space as well). I like to use hanging plants to block things out of my view (the street, the neighbors' house, etc.), so I constantly run out of space for them all. I put them in all of my trees and on numerous shepherd's hooks in my yard. I attach hooks to almost anything that will stay still long enough for me to screw a hook to it, and I'm still always running out of space for all the hangers.

In the last few weeks I came up with some ideas I wanted to share.

I don't want to open my own shepherd hook factory, so I figured out a way to expand the use of the ones I already have. I made them simply with 2 double shepherd hooks and a length of 3/4" copper pipe for less than $20 of supplies purchased at my local store. . The shepherd hooks are $17 each at my big box store, but I already had mine, so I only needed to buy the copper pipe. You could also use PVC pipe or any other metal pipe No skills or tools are required for this one.

The next idea did take a ladder, a screwdriver, a helper, and some lengths of chain (which my helper offered up for free, so I'm not sure what the cost is, but rope could also be used in place of the chain). I like the copper pipes, but you could easily use PVC pipes or even lengths of bamboo:

This last solution was FREE (sort of... I bought the swing years ago and was ready to throw it away after the sun destroyed the entire swing part, but my laziness kept it in the yard until I came up with this idea). The "step shelf" under it was originally a trash find, but more can be made easily. I'm now on the lookout for old children's swing sets discarded as trash.
