I have five or six very special lilies that have been with me since before my first child was born 24 years ago. I am sure they have a botanical name, a very special cultivar name, and all that. However, I only know that they came from a Daylily farm in Pearland, TX.

I don't remember the names. Even though I would love to learn the names, I probably would only forget them again because what makes them special to us is the neighbor who shared them with us. She shared a handful of bulbs just before we moved away as a going-away present so that we would "never forget her." Well, it worked! After all these years, we still think of the name "Marie" when these bloom for us. It doesn't matter how rare or how common my daylilies are or what their names are. They are priceless because they are flowers given with love and kindness to welcome us into our new home and to remind us of our past, lest we forget our old home and neighbors.
