Welcome to All Things Plants: Garden Tours. Each week we'll take you on a tour of the lovely gardens of one of our members. Join us now as we travel to zone 7 where Tarev will take us through the gardens she has created. You are going to love what you see!

Here is my small garden tour. My garden is very young, since we moved to this property in 2008. We have decided to keep it as low maintenance as possible, hence mostly it is made up of drought tolerant plants, and are all in containers. It is still evolving as it is, since you really get to know the place as you live in it a while longer, trying to see which types of plants really can survive triple digit summer heat and very mild and wet winter months. So far, I find the succulents as my mainstay in my garden. Succulents have their distinct allure in my eyes, and as I have said before very low maintenance. They thrive nicely in our extremely dry summers, and my garden seems so alive even in winter.

I do have other mainstays here, like the ever resilient spider plants, lantana, schefflera, golden yarrow, gaillardia, hostas and cycad. We have added a water feature, so it helps provide some humidity. It adds some fanciful design I guess, looks like a concrete doughnut. It depicts a certain circle of life symbolism, with water being an essential aspect of any garden environment.

Aside from the plants, daily garden visitors like hummingbirds, butterflies, spiders, various insects, feline strays come about, adding life and thrill knowing there are other events occuring within the garden itself!

Apart from outdoor gardening, I also have some indoor houseplants and some orchids:

My orchids are on a stand near a west facing window.

This mini-cymbidium is mostly grown outdoors, but when I notice it has blooms come winter time, I take it indoors:

So that's it for my little outdoor and indoor gardens. Enjoy!

Tarev, you've packed amazing beauty into a small space. Thank you so much for sharing both your indoor and outdoor gardens with us. We love the 'wildlife' that visits your outdoor gardens, too.

Thanks for joining us. We'll be right back next week to take you on another tour of another member's gardens.

~
