I always enjoy learning about plants that are new to me and now Agastaches are among my favorites, both for the colors and for the spicy fragrance. 'Blue Fortune' is a particular favorite. It's a hardy plant, and the pungent foliage and beautiful form make a striking statement in my garden. It's a butterfly, bee, and hummingbird magnet as well, which makes it all the more valuable.
'Blue Fortune' Agastache likes full sun to light shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Occasional deadheading can prolong the bloom season. I leave the leaf and flower stems on the plants over the winter. I have had the most success planting the crown high and mulching to encourage good drainage and heat absorption during cold weather. 'Blue Fortune' Agastache is relatively free of pests and diseases, but it can be bothered by powdery mildew and rust in humid climates.
