Like most other gardeners and floral designers, I have always thought Roses were pretty but not until this year was I bitten by a familiar bug in a different form.

In the past this particular bug has taken several forms; first I seem to remember it was the Delphinium Bug, then the Lily Bug, then the Daylily Bug and that somehow turned into Brugmansias but this year I seem to have been bitten by the infamous Rose Bug. I am in love with them and keep trying to cram them into our small suburban backyard along with who knows how many perennials, annuals and veggies! Up until this season, though, all I had were a few minis, 'the Fairy' and 'Dorothy Perkins'. Then this spring I found a new 'Love', a beautiful Grandiflora Rose that changes colour depending on the light. In sun it appears a brilliant magenta and in shade, a vibrant cherry red.  It even has more going for it than that! The petal edges are slightly wavy and the reverses of the petals are white which from a few feet back make the petals appear to be fashioned of porcelain and hand painted. It's an enchanting quality that almost makes it seem like this Rose sprouted off the pages of a fairytale.

My second rose of the year is 'Innocencia' by Kordes’ Söhne. It is a pure white floribunda with blossoms about 3 inches wide at most. They exude the most pleasing almost musical fragrance in the afternoon, if you should decide to bring your nose near to take a whiff. I have only had this Rose for a month or so but in that time it has swept me up and drawn me into its tuneful personality. Soon I will be able to take pictures of it in full glorious bloom as its many sprays are about to burst into flower!

So far however, these are the only two Roses I have gotten this year but a kind fellow Cubiter has offered to send me 2 more which I'm sure will pull me in as well with their charm. They are: 'Veilchenblau' and 'Charles de Mills', which to me, both have beautiful colouring and style. I haven't received these Roses yet but when I do I will surely be posting about them in my Cubit along with arrangements made from my other Roses. So if you have an experience to share or maybe a Rose bouquet you made please come by Turquoise Sun Florals & Design and share them with us there!
