For 2013 we are going to be running special Plant Weeks each month, and to start off we have selected this week as Vegetables and Annuals week!
It's that time of year. The days are beginning to lengthen and the cold is beginning to strengthen. This is the time when you pull your chair a little closer to the fire and get out all the shiny new 2013 seed catalogs and start dreaming of your springtime gardens.
In honor of that, this week is designated Veggies and Annuals week, and we will be running all kinds of interesting articles, tips and ideas about these wonderful but short lived plants.
chelle has put together an
amazing collection of seeds that she will be giving away in a not-a-raffle-raffle this week. Watch this space for details on that Monday. Don't miss your chance at this one!
As an extra part of Veggies and Annuals Week, we are delighted to announce the first of what will be many special web apps at All Things Plants: The
Garden Planting Calendar.
The Garden Planting Calendar, sponsored by our friends at
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, is a free browser-based application where you enter your location and it will tell you exactly when you can expect your frosts to end in the spring. It will then give you detailed timing information on all the common vegetables; when should you start the seeds indoors, when to transplant them out, or when to direct sow the seeds into your garden.
Each vegetable will then link to the custom databases at ATP where you can view the varieties in cultivation, view photos, and discuss these plants with other members of the site. When you've made your decisions, head over to Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and place your order!
We're excited about this upcoming plant week and we hope you all enjoy yourselves and join in the conversations!
