In this video, Trish shows our hugelkultur swales beds, and how she manages them as the woody material starts breaking down, creating empty pockets in the bed.

Here's how we manage our hugelkultur beds. Holes develop in the beds where the wood rots, so we fill them back in.

Over time, the swales themselves fill with rich organic matter from the material in the pathways that breaks down. This organic matter is scooped up and added to the beds. Then later we'll throw down new material for the pathways, which will become next year's new addition.
