The October Not-A-Raffle-Raffle!

Posted by @dave on
This is our last raffle for 2015, and it's another GREAT one! You are going to be shocked and amazed at the wonderful prizes we're offering, so come in, buy your tickets, and hope to win!

Here we go again with another Not-a-Raffle Raffle. Why is this not a regular raffle? Well, in a regular raffle, you pay for the tickets with money. But in ATP raffles you buy your tickets with acorns. Tickets cost 5 acorns each. Don't know what acorns are? Click here to learn about acorns, and how to get them.

Important note: all but one of these prizes are only available to members in the United States. I'm really sorry for those in other countries, but the complications and expense of shipping things to other countries is just too difficult and costly to arrange with the various companies. For this reason, we have made the decision to limit the contest to United States winners only. If you are outside the US, you can still participate, but if you win you will need to gift the prize to another member of your choice.

Good luck to all participants, and now let's talk about the prizes:

Brushwood Nursery is providing three clematis vines from the Ton Hannink breeding program: Burning Love, Sugar-Sweet Lilac and Sugar-Sweet Blue. Brushwood Nursery ships beautiful vines and climbers throughout the United States directly to your door. We have hundreds of different climbers available like Clematis, Climbing Roses, Passion Flowers, Honeysuckles and much more.

Victory Seed Company is providing a $25 gift certificate from their store. The Victory Seed Company is a family owned and operated, small farm-based organization working to keep rare and threatened plant varieties available to home gardeners. All of their seeds are open-pollinated, open source, non-hybrid, and not chemically treated. As an early signer of the "Safe Seed Pledge" they will never knowingly sell GMO seeds. Many of the varieties are family heirlooms, most are old standard varieties that are now hard to find elsewhere.

SRQHoyas is providing three Hoya plants, shipped to you: Hoya 'Rebecca', Hoya myrmecopa and Hoya 'Sunrise' SRQHoyas offers many species of hoya plants collected from around the world. Hoya plants are succulent tropical house or garden plants that bloom throughout the year and many times over. They are very easy to grow and require little care except warmth, humidity and a good drink of water once a week. There are so many different hoyas that it is impossible to explain what they look like. I ship small plants as well as cuttings to the United States and cuttings are available for International shipping.

Perennial Obsessions is providing your choice of 5 plants from their catalog, with free shipping. We are a small mail order nursery offering a wide variety of named hardy succulents. Our specialty focuses on Sempervivum and sedum.

@Sharon is providing a painting of a hibiscus:

Sharon said:Thumb of 2015-10-11/Sharon/398a53When I wrote the article "Scarlet Rose Mallow and One Dark Night" recently, I gathered together all the images I had taken of the plant that I brought with me from the mountains of Southeast KY more than 30 years ago. As I looked through those images, I not only wanted to write the article but I also wanted to paint the bloom. Now I would like to share it with one of you.

"Scarlet Rose Mallow" is painted in acrylics on stretched canvas and can be hung on the wall or displayed on an easel. Stretched canvas is very lightweight. The painting is about 16"x20"; the acrylics are permanent and can be easily cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth. It's textural which means you can see and feel the thick brush strokes and the many layers of paint; it should never be covered in glass. Acrylic paints don't fade so it really needs no protection covering it. You can display it as it is or you can add a simple wooden strip frame to its edges.

In the past I have successfully mailed paintings to several places outside the U.S. so I would like to make it available as a prize to any of you who purchases a winning ticket, regardless of where you reside.

Plant Me Green is providing five prizes to five different winners. Winners will choose from:

Fuyugaki Persimmon 4x4x10" pot, USDA Zones 8-9

Arbequina Olive 4x4x10" pot, USDA Zones 8-10

Paw Paw 4x4x10" pot, USDA Zones 5-9

#1 Canadice Red Grape, USDA Zones 4-8

#1 Issai Kiwi, USDA Zones 5-9
Plant Me Green is the largest grower of pecans, crape myrtle, and trees in the eastern United States. Plant Me Green offers a one year guarantee on container plants.

@Lalambchop1 is providing 300 acorns to one winner.

Lastly, I will give 50 acorns each to the 3 remaining winners.

The ticket buying window is open now and will close on Wednesday, October 28th at 7:00pm Central time. The drawing will be done and posted the afternoon of the following day. The first place winner gets first pick of all the prizes, and then the second winner picks, and so forth until all prizes are claimed. Important note for winners: If you are contacted as a winner and asked to choose a prize you have 48 hours to respond with your choice. If you do not respond within that time, you will be forfeit the prize and instead be awarded 50 acorns and the next placed winner will be contacted and allowed to pick. Winners may instead choose to receive 50 acorns instead of any available prize.

This raffle is now closed!
