[ Dwarf Ylang-Ylang Shrub (Desmos chinensis) | Posted on August 1, 2012 ]

This is a vining shrub that strongly resembles Cananga odorata (Ylang-Ylang) but the flowers - while also similar - are much less fragrant. It is commonly used as a shade provider in urban areas in Southeast Asia.

[ Umbrella Tree (Heptapleurum actinophyllum) | Posted on July 29, 2012 ]

This tree is very invasive in our area. Even though I don't have a tree myself, there are many in my neighborhood, and I find seedlings growing everywhere, including in the cups of my Bromeliads! So, although they are attractive, they need to be kept firmly in check.

[ Fried Egg Tree (Oncoba spinosa) | Posted on July 18, 2012 ]

The fruit of this tree is very hard and was used for snuff boxes, which is where its other common name, Snuff Box Tree, comes from. The fruit is also used as a rattle, when the seeds are left inside.

[ Nizanda Agave (Agave nizandensis) | Posted on July 15, 2012 ]

This is an unusual Agave in that the leaves are almost more like Aloe leaves, more fleshy and without spikes, than those of most other Agaves.
I am told it is tricky to grow but it seems very happy in my yard.

[ Bodhi Tree (Ficus religiosa) | Posted on July 15, 2012 ]

This tree is sacred in the Buddhist religion, since it is said that Buddha attained enlightenment while meditating under this tree.
Also the Hindu religion worships this tree which originates in India.
Parts of the tree are also used in traditional Eastern medicine.

[ Plumeria (Plumeria rubra 'Oahu Star') | Posted on May 3, 2012 ]

This is a compact growing variety which is blooms very dependably. Would make a great Patio or Container Plumeria.

This plant is endangered in its native habitat, Madagascar.

This is aka 'Lemon Drop', one of Elizabeth Thornton's most outstanding varieties and registered with the PSA under # 224. A great bloomer.
