A selection highly indebted to its parent, ELIZABETH SALTER, and released primarily due to the improved vigor and adaptability for the North. BODY RUB is a peachy pink thru flesh blend of subtle yet alluring character. These 5-1/2" fully formed flowers are extravagantly ruffled and this ruffling continues down into the throat. The plants are vigorous and robust with tall erect scapes and consistent five and six-way branching, providing for a long and splendid show. A wonderful garden plant, which is fertile either way.

The combination of two of my most vigorous and dependable deep colored daylilies has produced this swaggering macho selection. BLOOD, LOVE AND THUNDER is a clear bright rose violet self with a small chartreuse throat. These 6" flowers are full, formal and gently reflexed, creating a consistently round presentation irregardless of the temperature. The wide petals display precise piecrust ruffling without any further embellishments. The extremely robust plants display tall, stately erect scapes with wide three and four-way branching. Very fertile both ways, and a cultivar of exceptional merit in my program.

Perhaps the most dramatic purple of this past season, this imposing selection is presented with total confidence. The color is a deep violet burgundy merlot self with a small chartreuse throat. The impressive large flowers are broad, flat and recurved, exhibiting a sculptural presence through subtle throat pleats and superlative waxy substance. Plants are large and robust with extremely thick, erect scapes that display three and four widely spaced lateral branches. In accordance to my ‘prime directive;’ that form must follow function—plant habit and performance come first—BE HERE NOW achieves a new level of excellence. In the spirit of SUPREME EMPIRE and FEELING GROOVY, this cultivar has earned a greater respect each consecutive season, and is possibly my finest yellow thus far. Exceptionally well finished, BE HERE NOW displays a very symmetrical and formal presentation. Wide, full and rounded, this gently reflexed and gracefully ruffled cultivar truly appears sculptured. The very smooth and heavy wax-like substance, combined with the outstanding opening characteristics provide real class and distinction. The color is a soft mellow yellow through pale ivory with a small green heart. The large flat 6" flowers appear to be placed like salad plates on the stout five and six-way branched scapes, while the overall balance helps to create one of the finest plants in the garden. The last of the original tet GRAND MASTERPIECE progeny to bloom, and possibly my finest purple to date, BELA LUGOSI inherits its clarity and depth of color from the BLACKWATCH grandparent which has been a cornerstone in my work with purple. The flower is a true self, devoid of any lighter watermark or deeper eyezone that could detract from the emphasis on pure color—which is a rich, true burgundy purple, enhanced by an exceptionally smooth velvet-like finish and soft lemon-lime throat. Overall form is very full, wide and gently reflexed, with an air of dignity. The petals are graced by deep undulating ruffles. Substance is very heavy and the flower opens well even after cool nights. The stately scapes are tall and erect, with well-spaced three and four-way branching. MARMALADE SKIES X WORLD’S COLLIDE
Although I’ll admit I have a fetish for huge robust plants, I’m not quite sure why everyone else is drawn to this burly, rather coarse affair. Selected for it’s amazing plant and vigor, ATLAS SHRUGGED is primarily a hybridizer’s tool for those frustrated with temperamental and wimpy daylilies. Neither refined or fancy, these bold 6" flowers are wide and consistently open flat. The neutral color is a pastel fawn blush and is punctuated by a large sparkling marigold watermark. Brawny stalwart scapes display three and four-way lateral branching with vigorous proliferations at each juncture. This Herculean selection is extremely fertile both ways, setting big fat pods!

SATANIC MAJESTY X LIFE ON MARS
In a garden known for its focus on deep color, ASCENSION BY FIRE literally rises above all contemporaries. Descending from two of my most intensely saturated ‘raspberry reds’ this color is best described as as iridescent barberry scarlet. The glossy candy apple finish and superb sunfast character further set this cultivar apart. These exceedingly well disciplined 5” flowers exhibit classic refinements. The petals reflex, fold and gracefully pinch with no ubiquitous minutiae along the edge to distract from the emphasis on pure color. The tall, elegant flower scapes arise majestically from the deep green foliage and display extraordinarily well balanced six-way branching. The flowers seem to nestle in a thicket of buds like garnet embers. A personal favorite and one which I feel has tremendous potential as a landscape plant (after all, isn’t that what this is all about?). Easily fertile either way and having a powerful impact on my commitment to red.

Arrogant and bold, this dissolute rogue is ready for prime time! Not just another daytime drama, AS THE WORLD TURNS is the real thing. The flashy color is a pretentious raspberry rose with a soft blush watermark around the chartreuse green throat. These billowy and gently creped 6" flowers are very full with enough flaring to avoid formality. The three inch plus petals are ruffled and edged in a fine white border. The tall erect scapes display wide three-way branching. AS THE WORLD TURNS is fertile both ways and further vindicates the exciting potential of LIFE ON MARS.

Like an angry mob of insurgents, ARMED AZERBAIJANIES resonates across the landscape like a militant revolt. Expressed in seditious color and defiant stature, this garnet through raspberry-wine flower has created a bold impact on garden visitors. These 6" triangular flowers are flat to gently reflexed and ruffled. The sepals are quite long and flat, accen-tuating the star effect. A raised midrib and a slight lighter frost along the edge adds to the dimensional presence. The tall scapes are bayonet straight with strong four-way branching. Very fertile both ways, ARMED AZERBAIJANIES has proven a productive parent for dramatic sculptural reds.

When we realize the human population has now reached 6 billion and counting, and that currently 54 species of plant and animal life become extinct each day, one might begin to wonder if the apocalypse is not some impending event but an inevitability we have now come face to face with. This grim vision is successfully conveyed in the dark portentous color of this daylily. APOCALYPSE NOW is a deep gothic maroon purple with a post industrial soot-like opacity. The 5-1/2" flowers are overall one of my most fully formed and round purples to date. The stout erect scapes display three-way branching immediately above the tight green foliage mound. Fertile both ways.
