Endemic to the state of Florida and once wide-ranging, Tampa Mock Vervain is now only found in the central part of the state. It is considered endangered due to loss of habitat from extensive coastal development.

Tampa Mock Vervain is a short-lived perennial wildflower 12 to 24 inches high. It has spreading or ascending stems with papery, lance shaped, notched leaves of up to 3 inches in length. Small pinkish-purple flowers emerge in clusters from a slender, straight stalk. Flowers usually appear in spring, but the plant can bloom sporadically throughout the year. Frost will kill the plant but it readily re-seeds and some plant nurseries are now propagating and selling the plant.

Habitat includes disturbed sites, sandy areas of oak and palm hammocks, palmetto and pine flat-woods.

Tampa Mock Vervain is a nectar source for multitudes of butterflies and a great addition for any Butterfly Garden!
