As its name implies, this is indeed an early garlic. The bulbs are smaller than normal but the flavor is very sweet with no aftertaste. One of my favorites.

    Size:

I just received planting stock from Filaree Garlic (in Washington State) and these are large compared to the other varieties. Full heads are running 2.4 - 2.8" in diameter and the cloves are averaging 1.6-1.8" in length and are extremely thick and fat. There are 5 bulbs per pound, averaging 12.6 cloves per head (I included the cloves that are growing about the upper stem in calculating the cloves per head). If counting the cloves only found in the head, there are 10.4 cloves per head. It is listed as typically having 11-21 cloves per bulb.

    Odditiy:

2 of the 5 heads received have additional (large) cloves growing around the stem above/outside of the main bulb.

Type: Early Red Italian is a softneck garlic - Artichoke type.
