Hawaiian Botanists call this Mariscus hillebrandii subsp. hillebrandii.
An unusual native Sedge, which grows on lava rocks in mesic to dry forest.
The name 'Ahu'awa refers to the Hawaiian use of the plant to arrange a number of the stems to form a strainer.
