Prohibited in Texas and other states. Water Hyacinth "alters native vegetation and fish communities by lowering light penetration and dissolved oxygen levels. Impedes boat traffic on rivers and waterways and clogs irrigation canals and intake pumps."

I know that Water Hyacinths are invasive in southern areas but must not be so up north as they are for sale at all the bigger local nurseries that have a pond section. I buy 1-3 plants each spring as they die over the winter. I put them in my in ground 350 gallon stocktank pond and by the end of the summer the entire pond surface is covered with water hyacinth plants. They rarely flower for me.
