I've always looked upon this tree as being one of the most common and well-known houseplants here in the northern USA, and it still is. However, it is native to much of southern tropical Asia where it can grow to be a big tree to 100 feet high with a big trunk with high buttresses. It is known as having an aggressive root system as a big outdoor tree. I saw several outdoor trees in a park in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in southern Florida, where they were shade trees about 30 to 40 feet high.
