No staking required, and will grow in less than full sun. Mine gets full morning sun, but toward end of summer has afternoon shade.

A stalwart cultivar that never seems to suffer any disease problems and never fails to broadcast its heady perfume across the garden each year in season. This is a significant improvement over most old-fashioned garden phlox.

I have tried several Garden Phloxes, and 'David' is still my favorite. It grows tall and blooms reliably and profusely from midsummer through early fall. Phlox paniculata is native to eastern North America, and the bees and the butterflies love it. 'David' has good mildew resistance and enjoys full sun and average soil care in my zone 7a garden.

Much better than the old white phox grandma used to grow as it never gets powery mildew like they did. An added bonus is that it has a lovely scent. The glowing white flowers really stand out in the perennial garden. I had Phlox David for many years until I finally managed to kill mine by moving it one too many times in the middle of summer.

Rita, located on the north shore of Nassau County Long Island, NY zone 6/7 where it is humid here in the summer.

This year my Phlox David did have mildew.

I have had it 10+ years with no mildew here.
