This plant's appearance can be variable depending on where the seed originated. Native to the high northern mountains, various strains come from the Alps, Russia, and the Scandinavian countries. The leaves may be long and narrow, or short and flattened. It is quite adaptable and does well in a variety of soil types. Drought tolerant once established.

Medicinal use: The dried root is rose scented and may be used for depression, SAD, chronic fatigue, and weight loss.
