The seedpods, which form very soon after the flowering cycle and grow large very quickly, remain on the tree throughout the winter months. The hard dry seedpods are then shed by the tree during the first of the summer storms, allowing the seeds to be dispersed in the rainy season, which aids in quick germination. I have picked probably 200 small seedlings from under my tree this year so far (posted in September 2012)

This fast growing tropical tree is a sight to behold when it is in full bloom. Make sure to give it plenty of space, but otherwise it is a pretty carefree tree; some people don't like having to pick up the large seedpods after the bloom season, but this tree is worth that bit of work to me. A real traffic stopper! There is a variety of colors in the yellow to orange to red range available.
