Here's the pretty first bloom on J&P's Caribbean Breeze. I can't add it to the database because the rose isn't quite legitimate. J&P has never published the registration name of the rose or any information about the hybridizer and year of release, so it probably just renamed an earlier rose. It doesn't look like any floribunda I already have, however, so I can't imagine what it could be. It's a nice blend of peach and pink.

Lovely rose - too bad you don't know who it really is. Renaming seems quite unethical to me.

The only thing those fluttery petals reminded me of is Brass Band but of course it's the wrong color.

Well Brass Band can take on pinky shades but it has that different colored reverse too.

Yes, I think so too, I really wasn't even leaning much on the Brass Band ID other than saying that what it reminded me of.

Here's a bloom from the autumn flush on Caribbean Breeze. Lighter in color, and still nothing suggesting the Caribbean.

You're right, KatieJo. The ruffled petals are very much like the ones on Miami Moon, and Miami Moon displays a lot of color variation, just as this rose does. I have two Miami Moons in my garden. I'll have to see whether they bloom at the same time as this rose and compare them in the coming season. You may have identified it.

Not sure if this helps but I bought this rose for my mother last year and planted it in a pot. The flowers were definitely not pure pink and the colors changed as the blooms aged. Here is a picture of 4 blooms at various stages.

As you can see the flowers changed from a pink/orange blend to a pale yellow. I don't know what it is but I don't think it is Miami Moon which seems to just be various shades of pink. This was the first year it bloomed so maybe the colors will change this year. I don't know much about roses but I can say it was very healthy. No black spot to speak of without any spraying!

Of course it helps. Any attempt at identification helps. I never did learn the real name of the rose because J&P never did tell anyone the registration name. Mine has never produced any blooms that weren't pale pink with a peachy-pink center.

It's possible, of course, that your mother's rose and mine are not the same. Maybe J&P never did have an actual rose named Caribbean Breeze and they simply sent out whatever they had in surplus to fill the orders for it. I remember reading a post long ago by a former Michigan Bulb emplyee, who said they never really had a rose called 'Nearly Black,' but the name appealed to a lot of people, so it was one of their biggest sellers. They would send 'Oklahoma' to the customers instead. If they ran out of 'Oklahoma,' they would send another dark red hybrid tea.

I think you're confusing Miami Moon with some other rose. It isn't just various shades of pink. You can see the color variations in the photos in our database.

Sue is right about Brass Band sometimes taking on a pinkish tint. Mine always does that in it's last flush around mid november when it's much cooler. I think it's cool when a rose does that.

I sure hope J&P aren't passing off various roses as the same thing! I'm not knowledgable about roses. Could different climates or soil change the color of roses? I always thought they came true unless they revert to whatever they are grafted on. Could that be the explanation?

Yes. Soil and climate can alter a rose's color.
J and P are evidently notorious for switcheroos.

J&P has become exceptionally unscrupulous in the last 6 or 7 years. It was a well-respected nursery for decades, but then it changed hands and, unfortunately, changed its practices as well. It's now notorious for giving older roses new names in the hope of appealing to customers that might already have the older roses but can be fooled into thinking they're getting something new. I have to admit that this trick worked on me a few times.

As for the other matter, the color of a rose can be affected by climate, soil, season, and other variants. My Caribbean Breeze is an own-root rose, so it can't have reverted to the rootstock. In any case, even if it had, the rootstock most likely would have been Dr. Huey, which produces dark red blooms.
