My order from Dee arrived -- and unfortunately, she was not able to ship Gypsy Lord. Sad I don't want to wait another year to order it, but the only place I can find it is at Schreiners, and they want $15.50 for it, plus a minimm order which I don't need.

Anybody got any ideas where I can still get this Iris this year?

Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden has it for $6 but shipping would be $12 East of the Mississippi. They ship til the end of August. Superstition had it for $6 also but they are done shipping for the season.

Joe Ghio has it listed in his "The Classic Ones" section for $7.00. If you're interested you could email him to see if he still has it and he could let you know how much for shipping, etc.

[email protected]

I just got my latest order from him today and he sent fantastic large rhizomes with three terrific bonus plants! But he only ships through early September, so you'd need to act fast.

I did send Mr. Ghio an email, and am waiting for a reply. In the meantime, I went to Aitken's SCG and checked it out. Yes -- shipping is pretty expensive -- however, they do have a nice assortment of Keppel Irises that I could fill the order out with -- which makes shipping per rhizome not so bad. Just trying to decide if I have the time/energy/room for another group of rhizomes. Confused

There, you see? How am I supposed to wait another year for the rhizome, only to wait yet another year for the bloom? I simply can't.

Paul is another enabler -- one of the best. Rolling my eyes.

I've really been very good this year -- only getting a few here and there. Been a card-carrying addict for long, long time, Dee. Fortunately, my husband is forgiving. I do remind him -- "it's a benign addiction -- could be diamonds, ya know"!!

I did hear back from Mr. Ghio -- he does not have Gypsy Lord. So -- it's Aitken's or nothing. Aitken's -- with their lovely selection of Keppel Irises..................plus a few others on my wish-list..................what's a girl to do????????????? Shrug!

Well -- I did it. Placed an online order with Aitken last night for *Gypsy Lord*. The $13.00 shipping fee included six rhizomes -- so I also ordered *Code Red*, *Dance Recital*, * LaScala*, *Beach Dance* and *Spice Lord*. A nice variety of colors. I hope he can ship them all -- this is my third try this year for *Code Red*. For bonuses I suggested *Got Milk*, *Crackling Caldera*, *Resonance*, *Solar Fire*, *Saturn*, *Pirate Ahoy* or *Musician*. I would be happy with any of those. So -- we'll see.

Now the immediate problem is that I have no place to plant them. Seriously. So I have begun the project of resurrecting the Iris bed alongside the riding arena. This was to have been a long, slow, winter project -- beginning with a spraying of grass killer three weeks ago. Once all the (Bermuda) grass died, and after we'd had some Fall rains to soften the soil, I was going to pull the remaining weeds and dig out the dead Bermuda roots -- a big job, but not difficult. Well the grass killer isn't -- the Bermuda is nice and green and healthy. And even though we had a little bit of rain several days ago, the ground is like concrete. Nevertheless, last night I started digging out an 8-foot section and got about half of it done. I'm sure that I haven't found all the Bermuda roots, but I figure that I'll plant the rhizomes far apart -- so that when the little green sprouts of Bermuda pop up, I'll have room to Round-Up them without accidentally spraying my Irises. Then, over the winter, I'll pursue my original plan and (hopefully) have everything under control by next Spring.

Oh my goodness -- what is the matter with me? I haven't even finished the work I planned to do on Iris Lane yet, and here I go with another project. Confused Sigh. Oh well -- it'll all be worth it next Spring, right? Right?

Mary Ann, you could email Barbara Aitken just to make sure they have GYPSY LORD and to let her know that that is the important one in the order if you want -- she's wonderful and very helpful.
