Acknowledging that blue daylilies are a work-in-progress, it seems that most blue coloring is paired with lavender, usually as an eye-with-lavender mix. That said, it would be great to see a range of lavender-self, lavender-with-blue, and as-much-as-blue-can-be ... with any helpful tips for those of us new to the blue-is-lavender phenomenon most appreciated! Hurray!

Yes I find that to be true also. Most blue eyes are on a lavender flower but maybe there are others out there too.

I don't know if these will meet your criteria, so will let you be the judge:

My very own unnamed cross of "Mom's Seedling" X Chance Encounter--to me it has a bluish cast to the flower--I think the water mark looks kind of blue, too

Meets my criteria, Avedon! nodding I'm hoping to get a fan of Mystical Rainbow soon - can't wait! And, Betty, thanks so much for your helpful reminder that intense sunshine areas may see a more pastel version of a daylily's color ... it really helps to adjust expectations and increase enjoyment, not to mention saving a lot of surprise and frustration. I'm learning from you to choose a few shades darker than what I'm hoping for, and have seen now how much closer that brings me to what I'm hoping for. Group hug

Tina, so many darks have burned here in our summer sunlight and heat and I've gotten rid of them, so I'm now gravitating to the more pastel daylilies, or bright but not so dark. And the few really dark ones I currently have get only filtered sunlight or just a very few hours of morning sun, and I don't know yet how well they will bloom -- or even if they will bloom. It seems that some daylilies just will not bloom for me, and I end up getting rid of them after two or three years. I had PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN for almost four years and never saw a bloom -- sigh! Shrug!

I'd like to start with the little guys, and the first one seems at times to have a sky blue eye, even though the background color is not lavender.

Thanks -- I really love the little guys, and to me it seems that they get the best blue eyes. But all the ones with the best eyes are dips so far. I've purchased a couple of tet conversions of two or three of them now, but I won't see any blooms on those until next year.

Royal Lineage probably belongs in this thread because of the washed eye. Someone told me that Mark Carptneter has withdrawn it from sales to work with it extensively. I can't attest to the accuracy of this statement, but I can't find it on his website.

Saw a pretty little miniature at the daylily show this spring called Blue Flirt (G. Stamilie-01). It was mauve with a steel blue eye, that looked pretty steel blue to me. I've also seen Blue Grass music at this same show last year. A clump in bloom was for sale, and it was, to be kind, one of the last in her group that hadn't been sold by closing time. I overheard some rather negative comments from the passing crowd. Personally, that Blue Flirt was awefully cute by comparison....Cutting Loose has a pretty bloom Dot. A little lighter then the AHS file picture, but really nice round form.....Maryl

Ann, that one looks like the cars you can sometimes see that look purple from one angle and blue from the opposite angle, and some completely new color blend from straight on. Pretty!

I have not a single bloomed plant with any blue in it. Maybe some of the seedlings and/or those flowering next year will have some blue. Sad

I don't have this one, it's on the miles long lust list, but it's so pretty. I am saving up my allowance for the next several years so I can afford it Hilarious! Check out Art Gallery Gardens (Ludlow Lambertson) 2012 dip intro named BLUE CAPPED CORDON BLEU. I see Star Child is the pod parent, but this one is a bit bigger, listed at 4" with a 30" scape.
