That looks so nice tarev!

Being epiphytic and requiring good air circulation, I never would have thought Tillandsia would grow in rocks. Keep us posted on how they do for you.

I have both of those (or at least what looks like them) that I've found beside the road here, I just hang them on something and spray them every few days but since you are colder and drier I think the rocks might be a good idea. It should increase the humidity. Just don't spray them unless you turn them so they can drain. The easiest way to kill them is to let water sit in the crook of the leaves.

How cool is that! Am I seeing the roots peeking through on the left glass? Great idea.

tarev: I hope you will submit your great photo to the database at the parent plant entry for Tillandsia: Air Plants (Tillandsia)

And, since one of the Tillandsia in your picture is T. bulbosa you should also add your photo to that entry: Air Plant (Tillandsia bulbosa)

Ah yes, I have the first photo of my other tillandsia bulbosa already in the database..though sad to say that one perished in the heat..that's why I shied away from it for awhile, and then just decided to get this new t. bulbosa after seeing it in a flower market. Big Grin

Kristi, yup those are roots, but roots for a tillandsia are just for anchoring, I had to trim some of it to get a better fit inside the glass.

This time around, I plan to do a once a week water dunking on these new ones, since they will be indoors. The plants are just resting on top of the rocks, so easy enough to drop in a basin of water Smiling

Hi Gloria..tillandsias are air plants so they can be mounted on anything, wooden slabs, rocks, seashells, wine cork, on a tree.... I found this link that discusses growing the tillandsia cyanea that you wanted: http://www.ehow.com/how_767083...

I like growing tillandsia since it does not require soil, just good air circulation and watering is not too tasking, just dunking it in water works well once a week or longer if grown indoors, and right now I have 3 in my growcamp outdoors that just relishes the fog/moisture it gets from the air. They like bright indirect light. During warmer weather, you can mist the leaves, but I prefer giving them a full dunking so that the entire leaf and its undersides gets the needed moisture.
