They're finally ready to take orders for spring shipping. Here's the page of new offerings. Dark Night looks really wonderful. So does Smoke Rings, a mini.

Just ordered Purple Splash climber (gee, imagine, me ordering a mauve?), Koko Loko (http://www.edmundsroses.com/dp...) (love the fact that Blueberry Hill is a parent!), and Royal Amethyst (didn't get that one through Garden Valley, went with Rhapsody in Blue instead).

You stinking enabler you. LOL!! DH is gonna kill me. Oh well, cheaper than being a barfly.

Look at this one, Toni. I was browsing around on HMF last night and ran into it. It's not available from Edmunds (or anywhere else), but what a fabulous rose!

It's like a postage stamp with a printing mistake to a stamp collector - a striped lilac rose.

You're right, Steve: It's unique and has to be coveted by any collector. Funny that I never knew I missed having a striped lilac rose until I saw that photo. Now I want one desperately.

Toni, I'm also drawn to Koko Loko and I probably will order it. Tangerine Streams looks interesting too, but it probably looks just like dozens of roses I already have. Dick Clark and Colorific are bound to be this year's rave roses, of course. If Target still had nurseries, they'd be full of those two this year.

That's the reason why I didn't get Tangerine Streams.. I think it reminded me too much of Mardi Gras. But Koko Loko is something I don't have anything like (no "tan" roses). And I don't have that many climbers.. I know where I'll be putting this one, too! Yay! That's the hard part.. where would I be putting everything?

They're all wonderful. Hannah Gordon is like a super-tall Nicole. Mine's at least 6 or 7 feet tall. Leann Rimes is another tall one and it never produces a single bloom that isn't perfect. It's sold as Perception by about half of the nurseries.

I can't wait to see more information on some of the new roses. Planting own root roses that have performed well for others in zone 5/6 or colder is working well for me. I keep repeating my mantra "no more dead sticks" and remembering how happy I was this spring when my roses survived the winter.

Koko Loco was the first new one to catch my eye. Dark Knight and Rouge Royale (also called Caruso, a romantica) from Meidiland are also interesting. I assume Tequila Supreme is different from the three Meidiland roses already named Tequila. While I am complaining about names. Wouldn't you rather grow a rose called Lord Byron than Polka? Yes they are the same rose, but a romantica rose called polka? Non.

More iceberg sports? Lace Cascade, Pink Iceberg

And a fragrant Radler rose on its own root with a very full floral form. Yippee!!! Milwaukee's Calatrava Shrub Rose

Does anyone grow Persian Yellow Antique Foetida Rose? How unpleasant is the unpleasant scent?

They didn't flag colorific or daybreaker as new, but I haven't seen them before. Or perhaps don't remember seeing them. They look nice in California, especially in California Sue's photos like this one:

http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

FYI, I really like Fire Meidiland, a groundcover rose. It is by my strawberries in a no spray garden bed and still has healthy foilage. The canes are longer than I thought (6'+) but I am not complaining. It is a scarlet red. It seems like Ruby Meilland is similar rose but possibly taller and a truer red.

I love the Meidiland landscaping roses. I avoid calling them groundcover roses because they put out those same 6-foot canes in my garden as in yours. They are almost always in bloom, though, and they do have attractive and healthy foliage. I have Cherry Meidiland, La Sevillana, and Fuchsia Meidiland.

Day Breaker is a comparatively old rose (2003), but you're right about Colorific. It's brand new this year. Edmund's, however, was already selling it last year, so it's not new to Edmund's.

Rouge Royale isn't new either. It's a 2000 rose. I bought mine from Syl Arena Roses way back when they were still in business. It's a nice healthy plant, but the blooms are a bit disappointing, balling in the rain and frizzling in the heat.

I personally have a problem with most roses named after people. I would much rather have Polka in my garden than Lord Byron, who stands out in my mind as a morose and creepy guy with incestuous urges.

I love the name Polka!! Reminds me of my German family. Love the rose too, it's another one that I absolutely must replace when I get the new house.

Andi - Persian Yellow Antique Foetida STINKS. Like, gross type stink, like almost as bad as a skunk stink. BUT!! You have to shove your nose right up into the rose in order to smell it; you don't smell it just by walking by it. I know, I was looking at getting one to go with my Austrian Copper, which is the same rose, just a different color (from what I know).

I don't mind the name, polka, just thought it was an odd choice for a rose in the "romantica" series. I like to see "real garden" pictures (or San Jose rose garden, of course) and read "real person" reviews of roses in colder zones before adding them to my garden. How many times have you seen a plant in person that didn't look like the marketing pic? Exactly.

I do like that Edmonds carries some roses own root.

It is fun to see the new roses. I guess coral continues to be a "hot" color. Fine with me, I like it.

I hope that the lilac stripe rose becomes more widely available. I like the color with or without the stripe.

I wasn't aware that Edmunds was selling own-root roses. Are they having financial problems?

They list some of their roses as "own root". Especially the shrubs, all of the Radler roses, some Antiques. It is listed at the end of the description.
