Click onto the HCG link. It states at the top of the page that their catalog and website has closed its doors! Crying Crying Crying http://www.highcountrygardens....

I found out about them in Spring 2005 and placed my first of many orders at that time. Crying

I am very sorry to hear that Marilyn, this is the third company I've heard of that is closing. It's very sad to see this happening to so many. Sad

It's always sad to see a good company close it's doors. This economy is not friendly to small companies. And I don't see much news on the economy that makes the near future look any better.

First it was Bustani, then Garden Perennials (in IL. think that was the name, it was garden something) and now HCG!

I am so very sad. Crying

I always got my plants for the Hummers & BF's at HCG (as well as the other two places). Those three places were my favorite places.

Also Earlybird Daylilies closed due to drought, and recently the announcement about Spacecoast Daylilies! Sad

Marilyn, Have you tried Bluestone or Santa Rosa Gardens? SRG is still having a sale! I got a ton of perennials for my butterflies and got a few things for hummers also. Thumbs up

Susan,

I put an order into Earlybird Daylilies around the 17 or 18 of November and I also put an order into SRG last month or this month (Agastaches and Echinacea).

I order from Plant Delights, Flowers By The Sea, Sweet Nectar Nursery and Romence Gardens & Greenhouses this year and last and will continue to look for my plants this year at those places. Just have to order early enough.

I ordered 1 one-gallon pot of Salvia from Sooner Plant Farm a year or two ago. I ordered from Mountain Valley Growers a few years ago.

I keep forgetting to place my first order from Digging Dog Nursery, since they have a lot of neat plants (and neat plants for Hummers & BF's).

Almost Eden Plants is a place I want to order from, but by the time I want to order from it, they're out of a lot of stuff.

Haven't ordered from Bluestone yet, since they changed.

Didn't know about Spacecoast Daylilies going out of business.

Edited to mention that Lazy S's Plant Nursery, Garden Crossings and Deer-Resistant Landscape Nursery are a great place I order from too! How could I forget them?!

Correction: it was Cottage Garden (IL), not Garden Perennials.

I ordered from SRG about 5 times, Love that cheap shipping! My absolutely biggest Echinacea came from Plants Delight, I got a shrub and a small tree from, Lazy S's and I got 3 winter Berries from Bluestone. Be sure to re-pot them because the coco pots do not biodegrade as quickly as they should and the roots will be trapped in there. Also they dry out real fast if you leave them out, I had a Hosta that dried out and blew away before I even realized anything was wrong. Whistling They do have a good selection of butterfly and hummer plants by category. I've heard good things about Romence Gardens. Thumbs up

Where am I going to find Salvia 'Scarlet Spires' now?!

I could always count on HCG, of course, for that one as they introduced it. It is the best Salvia for Hummers! I saw them ignoring all the other plants I had (for them) and zero in to SS!

I'm still in tears, sad and depressed. :((

It is very sad, what's happening with these companies closing.

Marilyn, they probably don't have that specific one, but I know Annies Annuals has quite a few, as I've really wanted the grape scented one.

Polly,

I'll check Annie's. I tip my hat to you. They always seem so expensive when it comes to shipping plants, that I've never ordered from them.

Can you take cuttings? They root easy in water.

Spring,

I never have done cuttings before.

Joy Creek Nursery is out in the Northwest. Have you ever ordered from them?

No, never have odered from them. Seems the shipping charge is a bit high.
Cuttings are easy and you have nothing to loose.

Just cut a 3-4 inch or so from the plant. Look for green wood rather than the brown older growth. Clip the leaves off about half way up. Cut of any blooms and put them in a glass of water.
