I know I'm crazy for even asking, but I think it's a very unique flower, so hopefully someone will recognize it. It was bought in a pot, and the tag said Bench Mark. There were several fans in the pot, and one of the fans has this bloom, and the rest have a very different flower, but neither are Bench Mark. It's about 25" tall, about 5" across, and is dormant. The colors in the picture are very accurate. It's about the only accurate photo that I've taken!

Any suggestions would be most appreciated! I really don't care if I get a name or not, since I'm going to keep it as a garden plant, but I do like to know the names of my babies whenever possible. I haven't tried crossing it, so I don't know if it's a tet or a dip.

First thing I thought of was 'LAST MAN STANDING' but it seems to have more ruffles.

My guess would be Final Touch as well, the sepals vary a little in color but that could be from amount of light it recieves or soil. Is it a mid or late bloom time? Final Touch is usually a late bloomer here in Michigan.

I'm curious about you buying it in a pot. Was this at a daylily garden? A big box store or nursery? If at a nursery or large store, your likely to have tissue cultured plants. Some come true to what they were supposed to be - but other tissue cultured plants don't.

I don't think you will ever know for sure - I'd always label it as a NoID... however, the daylily is rather distinctive. Even given it's distinction - it could be a tissue culture that didn't grow true - or could be a seedling.

As far as tet or dip, it just "looks" dip to me....

Another one that it might be is COWBOYS DON'T CRY. This was on my short list a few times but I never did get it so I don't have a picture of it.
Listed in AHS as: (Hansen, 1998) height 40", bloom 5.25", season MLa, Rebloom, Evergreen, Diploid, Purple and ivory bicolor with chartreuse throat. (Very Berry Ice × Solomons Robes)

Hope you find out what it's name is. It is hard to find out but it's always worth a shot!

That's a really good guess! I think you might be right, it looks just like MB.

Thanks Susan. As soon as I saw it I thought I either had that one or wanted it at one time, just couldn't remember which!

Just realized that Cowboys Don't Cry is an evergreen and is taller, so it probably isn't in the running.

Here is another pic taken on 6/24/12 of MB with Tommie Lee Joiner (20" tall) in full swing in front of MB. MB is listed as an EM bloomtime and TLJ is listed as MLa. While I didn't get a whole lot of blooms on MB this year, I had sporatic blooms from June 1st to at least the 24th. Please excuse all the brown... 2012 was a bad year:(

That's ok, the blooms are beautiful. Probably everyone had brown this year, very hot and dry.

Thanks everyone!!! I'm leaning toward Majestic Beauty. It sure looks the same to me! I love Last Man Standing, and it's close, but that one has white on the edges. It's not Final Touch, which I have. I thought it was at first, but it's not shaped the same, and the colors aren't the same. At least not on the one I have. I really think that it's Majestic Beauty, and it's a very fitting name!! It really is beautiful! It only bloomed once for me, the first year I got it, and hasn't bloomed since. But, it's worth waiting for! Vickie, I REALLY appreciate the great photos!! I didn't notice any brown!

I bought this at a small local nursery. The lady who owns the nursery got all of her daylilies from the local daylily club sale. Out of the many that I bought, only 1 had the correct name on it. I have sworn that I will never buy another daylily from this nursery, or from the club. It's not the fault of the nursery, but I do believe that the club wasn't honest, or careful, about tagging their plants. I'm friends with the lady who owns the nursery, and she knows I don't hold it against her. I've tried to help her with the ID on all of the daylilies, and we finally decided that it was just better to remove all of the tags and sell them as mixed. She had a couple hundred pots of them that were wrong!

Juli, I'm pretty sure that it's not a tissue culture, because of where it came from originally. But, I have no idea where the original person got it from, so who knows? I guess it could be, but I think it's very unlikely. I think it looks like a dip too, but I'm no expert! The clump that it is in looks nothing like it, and the other one is a tet as I've successfully crossed it with other tets, both as a pod and pollen parent. It did not set seeds from dip pollen that I dabbed on it, nor did the pollen set seeds on the three dips that I put the pollen on. (That was confusing!) Here's a picture of the other one that was in the same pot. I'd love to get a name for it too, but there are way too many others that look like it.

Glad to be of assistance, Natalie. I'm really glad to have MB in my garden because I have very few bi-colored ones.

How awful for you and the nursery lady that the daylilies were so messed up. I'm sure that the nursery owner (and you too) paid more just because the dl's were tagged, albeit with the wrong names. It only takes one person to really mess up plant tags and that could have even been a visitor to the club, I guess. But mixed dl's in the pot! Such a shame though, no matter how it happened. My neighbor swears someone came along and messed up some of her plant tags on purpose just to be mean.

I'm afraid I don't have a clue on the orange one, but don't get discouraged and keep posting pics for us to help ID. We all love a challenge. I once posted on another website about 10 NOID's that I got from neighbors and was able to get 2 identified. Outrageous and Condilla are kind of distinctive, but at the time, I was clueless!

Natalie, how big is the flower on that orange noid. How tall was the scape? It sure is beautiful.

Susan, that one is about 28" tall, and the bloom is about 6" wide. I've pretty much given up hope of a name on that one, but I'm using it for hybridizing anyway. I love the edge on it! It's a little more peach/pink colored than what is in the photo. I haven't been able to get a perfect picture of the color, but I keep trying. I've posted it several times, and no one has been able to figure out what it is. I'm fine with having NOID on it's tag, but it's official name here is Bench Mark NOT!

Vickie, I have Condilla too, and LOVE it! It actually came from this same nursery, though it was a gift from the brother of the owner. He lives next door to me. He kept bringing me daylilies, trying to make up for the mistake on the tagged ones. I turned every one of them down, except for Condilla. It had no name on it, of course, since we had removed all the tags, but it was easy to put a name on that one. It's one of my favorites, and I don't even like orange! I had planted it in the front yard, just to use as a nice garden plant, but moved it within a few days to the backyard so that I could use it for hybridizing. Yes, it's older, but I couldn't care less about that! I've got seedlings growing now from it, and can't wait to see them in a couple of years!

Natalie, funny you should say that you don't even like orange. It was probably my least favorite color until a few years ago. I was always partial to the pinks, peaches, and purples and they are still my favorite. But there are some gorgeous oranges and Condilla is one of those unusual ones that I love.

The only thing I have that is even remotely looking like your orange noid is Electric Marmalade Magic and that is a long stretch probably. It is supposed to be 24" tall with 5.75" bloom and it looks like a different (fuller??) form. It sometimes gets a little white edge around it. If you check the database here there are a lot of pictures of it. Here are a couple of my pics of EMM. I can't remember if it is really this orange or not in my garden or if my camera is playing tricks on me, lol!

blue23rose, great picture! I think it is better than the other one that is in the database! Hint,hint. My Condilla looks yellow and yours looks orange, I wonder why that is. The FFO did not look like a double but the second one did.

lol Susan! Thanks, I took the hint and posted that picture in the database. It is better than my other one. I have a terrible time getting my Condilla pics true to color and they usually turn out more orange than they really look. It is very frustrating. But I know that soil plays a role in the coloring too.

Great pictures Vickie! Orange has always been my least favorite color! It's my sister's favorite, so that is probably why. Growing up, we shared a bedroom. Her half was all orange, and mine was purple. I still haven't recovered from that!

I'm sure that my other NOID in that clump isn't Electric Marmalade Magic, but that one is a beauty! The shape isn't right, and mine never has any white on it. The color isn't quite right either, according to the info in the database, and I think it's way too new to be mine. I'm sure mine is an older one too.

Pink is by far my favorite color for daylilies. I don't even have a close 2nd for color, but I'm trying to expand on that. It's really hard to do! I like yellow just fine, but have a hard time picking a yellow daylily that I can't live without! I've got a couple of reds, but red is my 2nd least favorite color in general. I do like red flowers, but nothing like I love the pink ones! Purple is another one I've had a hard time with. I like purple a lot, but most of the purple daylilies don't do much for me! My favorite color is brown (weird, right?), so I guess the brown on all the foliage should be making me happy, but it isn't!

That's hilarious, Natalie! Orange and purple reminds me of a pair of hip-hugger bell bottoms I had in the 70's. They were purple with huge orange flowers on them!! I still can't believe that my mom let me get them.

Favorite color is brown. hmmmm? Like my boss from 1974 always said: "To each his own, rusty bone"

Those pants!!! I always think of a pair of socks I had that were orange and purple. They were awful! My grandma bought them for me, so I wore them, but they turned my stomach! Grandma thought I liked orange and purple because of the bedroom, but didn't realize that it was just my purple half that I liked!

I don't know how anyone can have brown for a favorite color, but it's true! I do a lot of beading, and I find myself starting to make every project out of brown beads! I just love the color. My living room is also decorated in browns, and I find it warm and calming. I don't want brown flowers though!
