Anyone got anything going on this February? Here's a Scentimental to brighten up the day!

Our local Balzac Billy groundhog did not see his shadow so they say Spring is around the corner. I heard a robin yesterday who also thought spring is soon. It has been a pretty mild winter, but no where near over. I didn't take my Hot Coco & Burgundy Iceberg floribundas out of the big containers in the fall. By the time I got around to them, they were frozen in. I doubt they will winter over....but maybe with the winter we have been having.

Joanne - Robins have been overwintering here for a few years now.. kinda depressing thinking that our area's warm enough in the winter for robins now when, about 5-6 years ago we had almost no birds during the winter. Now I have purple house finches, chickadees, black billed magpies, blue jays, crows, dark-eyed juncos, and goldfinches overwintering. Before, all I would have would be mourning doves.. now I got pretty much all the summer birds in the wintertime too. Most of my plants are still 100% dormant, but my trees are still very flexible, so that's a good thing (means I won't lose them). I don't think I'll have a lot of winterkill on my roses.

Weather here's been absolutely gorgeous, if drier than a desert. Oh, that's right, we practically ARE a desert. LOLL.. I forgot, my bad. I have my windows open at home 'cuz it's in the 50s right now and definitely want to take advantage of this beautiful weather. My roses aren't doing anything, which is fine, but I've seen swelling on the cottonwoods. I'm waiting for the greening of the willows before I really start getting antsy. Bad thing is that right now it's 50 degs and we're predicted for snow tonight. Go figure. Some of my catnip's still growing even with the ice & snow we've had & a lot of my agastaches are showing new growth at the ground level. I've found now that my creeping phlox is definitely an evergreen. My silver maple is developing those stupid berry-like things, but I haven't seen any signs (as of last Sunday) of my hyacinths popping up. My muscari is also an evergreen. It kinda died back 100% after it bloomed last year, then really took off again in October. Thought for sure it was going to bloom again. Last fall, I mulched in my shade corner where I have some coral bells as, every time I try to grow them they "heave" themselves out of the ground. I read here (not sure where here, but it was here on ATP) that if you mulch them they shouldn't heave, so I did that, and I don't see any heaving going on, which is good. But, I'm definitely going to have to transplant one of the plants there (my Emerald & Gold euonymus) as it's getting too big for that area. Just can't wait to start digging.. but everything's frozen still.

We've been having unusually warm weather recently too. None of my roses is blooming at the moment, but nearly all of them are putting on masses of new leaves so all the bushes look really good. In fact everything is acting more as if it is the middle of March than the start of February. I hope the plants know more than I do. We got a little rain this morning!

Everything was icy this morning. Roads were a bit slick, but that's OK. Got some moisture! Just read an article in the paper that we're down 75% of our snowpack, which is gonna make for a VERY bad year with our reservoirs. :(

But this is my front yard this morning. Sun hadn't popped up yet. Notice that nothing's trimmed... not 100% pure laziness, but not supposed to trim / prune in the fall.

On the Random Image, I saw one of Zuzu's images for Nimbus. So I looked on HMF to see where I could order it. One of the sellers was "Angel Gardens" http://www.angelgardens.com/. Anyone ever order from them? DG's Watchdog is very positive looking, but almost 100% of the roses I'm interested in they're out of.

I never ordered from them because shipping to California includes a 30% "plant inspection fee."

Local groundhog here on Long Island did see his shadow so more weeks of winter here. And it turns out he was correct as we are supposed to have a major winter blizzard here Friday going unto Saturday morning. So far they are saying 14 inches but that could change.

I am still on my exercise and healthy diet kick and work out every day.

Made my fiber protein slurry a little different this time. Added the RAW FIBER, a scoop of Andrew Lessmans WHEY powder, half a scoop of SECURE MEAL (which I have been adding because it improves the flavor) and a half scoop of GOTEIN. Mix it all in the blender and I have had my super duper nutrious health food for the day.

I also take the Garden Of Life PERFECT FOOD RAW capsules (8 of those a day) whuch give me all the super benefits of green foods. They have so many in there. Especially when one first starts on them you can just feel the chlorophyll in them.

Between these two things I do gets me supercharged for healthy eating and loving. I do still eat lots of veggies but even if I didn't (or just couldn't get enough) I would already have my servings of veggies. Also much of the fiber and a good start on the protein needed for the day.

Rita - What's wrong w/eating a couple of eggs & some oatmeal for breakfast? A glass of OJ/grapefruit juice for vitamins, and away we go?

I hate oatmeal but do eat it sometimes. Eggs don't have the fiber I get with my slurry and truthfully it is quick and easy. I do eat eggs, hard boiled, soft boiled or fried. Usually as a lunch or even dinner.

A good day for the exercising today. I did 30 minutes on my Gizelle, 100 crunches and 600 count on the stepper.

The ab crunches are something I have added recently and figgure couldn't hurt as far as getting the fat belly tucked in. Yes, I know only loosing weight will get me a flatter tummy but I am working on that also. No lying on the floor for me. I found it works just fine lying on my living room couch.

Also working harder on the Gizelle. So while I am still on it for say 20-30 I make it harder to do by reving up the motion.

On the stepper I changed the resistance to a #4 for the first time today. I had been working at #3 (it goes from 1-5). That increase from the 3 to 4 is something that really can be strongly felt so I have to work much harder to push those pedals down now than I did before.

So a very good exercise day today.

I went to a wholesaler and picked up 15 bales of potting soil: Promix BX for a group order for my local Garden Club. Each bale weighs about 60 lbs. I got lots of exercise lugging them up driveways and sidewalks. Reminded me of when I was a kid on the farm pitching hay bales for the cattle & horses. I think I need a glass of wine now
