About three feet tall, yes, it is huge. And whereas I would half-fill a pot like that with styrofoam pieces, the person who planted the ponytail decided rocks would be good in the bottom Thumbs down

Rolling on the floor laughing Now I understand why you had so much trouble getting it home.

That should help to keep it from tipping over, being bottom heavy. Thumbs up

It looks like hand built clay.
I would kill for it.
Lucky you and the plant is perfect.
Stones are a heavy haul.

I was pretty darn pleased to have snagged it Smiling It came as a package deal with another, nice but not unusual pot. The latter, a fairly squat, round, maroon colored pot had a Strelitzia nicolai in it, which has since found its way to the Botanical Garden where I work since it will get much too big for my yard. It was terribly pot bound.
I'll be looking for something nice to put in that one this weekend!

Not yet.
I did a little googling and it is about this kind of shape. Probably 16 inches diameter.Thumb of 2013-02-07/Dutchlady1/ebb81b
That blue is pretty nice too Rolling my eyes. but mine is a maroon color.
I have a tall maroon pot and I bet I could probably come up with another one and put them in a group together.....

I can't remember when I last bought a pot at a shop.... yard sales are my best source for large planters since many people downsize when they move.

What does a Strelitzia nicolai look like? And how big does it get, that it wouldn't fit in that wonderful yard of yours Hetty?

Any suggestions for planting this pot? I measured it and it's actually 20 inches in diameter, and 12 inches high. I looked and I don't actually have a third maroon colored pot, but I could probably come up with one in the near future... Smiling
