Hi guys! Would like to know if anyone has grown Steeple Jackie, it is supposed to be 5feet tall and have small yellow blooms. I wonder if it really gets that tall and if it needs staked? I don't like to mess with staking, but I think the height would be neat.

I've never heard of it till now. I love the tall ones. The only ones I have that are around 5 feet are tets - most coming down from conversions of Altissima. None of mine need staked, but then they are tets. I'll be interested to see if anyone knows of this one.

I had Autumn Minaret once but it was nothing I was excited about. The flower is not that pretty, rather plain and spidery in form, and the scapes are flimsy. Although it did get rather tall. My mom is interested in the Steeple Jackie, it seems too plain for me, it looks a lot like the de'Oro lily only much taller, but the flower is small and yellow like that one. I just noticed it on Homestead Farms website. I just noticed yesterday they are doing free shipping until Feb 14, TODAY, so I was like yikes, I better order something LOL I got Eyes of Furry and Orchid Candy and my mom got a few and they will ship together.

While doing some late season research on our ATP Database & came across this older thread & think I am able to contribute ..... Saxton's 'Steeple Jackie' grows well here & has for about 4-5 years now. (USA Z4/Can Z5). It is certainly a 'Late' cultivar with FFO around the 3rd week of August. It does have 5-7 branches with a multitude of buds (Not counted) on erect sturdy - 'wiry' - scapes. The blooms are actually rather plain & small ... However, this plant matches up with my image of 'wildflower' characteristics .... Tall, fine-scapes with thin multiple branching and small 'natural looking' blooms. It does seem to be both pod & pollen fertile as I have 2015 pods developing both ways (Will be a late harvest!). ( NB: Saxton + Sobek + Huben + Apps + Turner plus several others, have similar introductions)

Unusual? Yes. ... Certainly not for most collectors or breeders. .... But SJ works here for me in my quest for SoS + SoM + SoT 'wildflower' types that rebloom - or have long blooming seasons. I view such cultivars as daylilies that don't really stand out - that need to be 'discovered' - growing along a fence-line or hedgerow or at the back of a cultivated border.

I found my SJ at Harmon Hill Daylily Nursery in Massachusetts. They grow a very wide assortment of such unusual daylilies.

I stumbled across SJ this past August and bought it. I am loving it. It has several scrapes plus lots of flowers and looks to have several more weeks of blooming to go. It may also be doing a bit of bud building too.

I am searching for the cultivar "Across the Border". We love very much to include it in my gardens.

I'm intrigued by tall ones and look forward to seeing them progress over the year. Autumn Minaret is a beast in multiplying. I started with four fans last August and have probably 16 right now. I have 7+ registered at 50 inches or higher and several others on the way. I'll be interested in seeing how tall they grow in year especially for ones I planted last fall.
