When I bought this rose from the Petaluma Rose Company, it was supposed to be Tinseltown, a pink and white hybrid tea. It quickly proved to be mislabeled. It's either a climber or the tallest grandiflora in my garden:

Too bad some of the more interesting roses are mislabels.

It seems fuller and more pink than Westerland, not sure what it is, but it is very nice. Hope you don't have to move it.

It does have a habit much like Westerland's -- thick and sturdy canes, but it's pinker, as you point out, and the blooms are bigger and fuller.

Yes, with good repeat: three or four times a year.

I wish we knew what it was. I would like to have one - if it is tough enough to survive my benign neglect.

It's surviving mine quite nicely.

Have you sent a picture to the nursery you got it from and asked them? They might just be able to identify it. I would love to know the name of it too! I have a perfect spot for it!! :)

Oh, no wonder. Sorry don't mean to be crass, but that guy was a real jerk. He pissed me off big time!!! Horrible, horrible customer service. And I never even got the order I placed. So you did better than I did. You got something but not what you wanted..sheeze! Does that ever bring back bad memories.

Tell me more, Alan. When did the problem with your order happen? I used to go there all the time, but the last few times I went, I got the impression he might be dying. He was wasting away visibly. The last time I went, the gate was closed and the sign said customers could only enter the place by appointment. I never bothered making one.

He was one of the Weeks boys -- Rick Weeks, I think. That could narrow down the search for the name of this rose. He understandably sold mainly Weeks roses. I think I bought it at the same time that I bought Berries 'n' Cream, which was brand new then, so it must have been in 1997 or 1998, so the mystery rose can't be newer than that.

At first I wondered if it might be Boerner's Aloha, which is sold by Weeks. But Aloha looks more tightly wrapped in most photos that I've seen, and doesn't have the coppery orange hues that this one has. But since you already have it, you would be a better judge than me.

Hi, Mike. Yes, the blooms of the Boerner Aloha lack the coppery tones, have twice as many petals, and are more tightly wrapped. The blooms on the mystery rose are more casual and they're also larger.

You k now your first rose almost reminds me of Kaleidoscope, but I've never grown Kaleidoscope, and it is classified as a shrub rose. Actually there are two listed on helpmefind. One is listed as a shrub rose, and one is listed as a floribunda. They both look like the same rose to me, but they are not reported to get as tall as you say your rose gets.

This one's too upright to be a shrub, unless it's a shrub like Westerland. It's probably a large-flowered climber or a very tall grandiflora. I have Kaleidoscope and it actually looks quite different. It is short and the colors are different. Most of the blooms look like this:

I noticed on Helpmefind that the various pictures of Kaleidoscope are very different in color. No two pictures quite looking exactly the same. Some looked like the picture of your rose on top, some didn't. I guess that's why it got the name it got. =). I wasn't implying yours was Kaleidoscope, was just commenting on how much it looks like some of the pictures of Kaleidoscope. The same kind of blending in colors going on. Beautiful rose indeed!
