I find myself looking at clearance racks more often these days, especially after I discovered I can easily make them into beautiful plants for a fraction of the original price. All it takes is a little tender loving care.
I ALWAYS head for the clearance racks! Some of my best stuff has come from them! Thank heavens not so many people know how easy it is to revive most plants!
Yes, clearance racks are a good source of plants.
In the fall or late summer, I look there for dormant plants.
One other shopper asked me why I was buying "dead" plants.
She did not believe me when I said it would be fine in the spring.
I can't believe that at 2 years old, my clearance rack daisy is still blooming like crazy. And it multiplied into several clumps. They are happy so am not touching them.
Wow 😳 I forgot I wrote an article about my clearance plants and succulents collection. My daisies lasted a few years but died when we had that bad frost. Some of the plants and succulents lasted a year but some of my hardy succulents are growing like weeds in my garden. I have given away a lot of babies. And some are still in their original pots (but I propagated the babies).
Here are some of my succulents (the sedums are new this year) but I may have added a few over the years or maybe given some cuttings but the majority are from the original clearance:
The jade elephant bush variegated died but the green one look like these and in process of being repotted.
And I've given away a lot to friends, here are these years succulent combo for friends:
For a friend, as pick me up
For my friend's mom
For my friend who is retiring (same just different sides):
You are welcome, Gigi. Love clearance plant stories, they are such fun. I have some yellow Asiatic Lilies I got more than 10 years back off a Lowes rack and they are still going strong. Happy to read yours are doing the same.
