If you pop in, can I get your opinion on something?
Some several years or so ago, I acquired this salvia...think it was labled either fulgens or pulchella, and I questioned that. Richard thought it is the now known as s. univerticillata. I'm not sure....
This is the plant grown in rich soil in part shade beneath an avocado tree with ample water, climbs easily to 12 ft or more, very floriferous, volunteers readily....

Same plant grown in full sun, un-enriched soil, very little water...is about 5' x 5'.

What do you think? TIA...

Looks and sounds like S. univerticillata. A profile of a single spike would help in the ID.

Thanks...it does indeed look just like the pic on your site. I'd been calling it univerticillata and decided to double check...

Sherry, really am liking the looks of this one though I am not a "red" person. However, my husband remarked the other day that he would like to have Salvia "Lady In Red" back in the garden. We only grew it in the garden when we lived in the FT. Worth area. It was an annual there, but always re-seeded so we usually had at least one or two blooming. I prefer perennial types, and I find it interesting that you have this one in lean soil in full sun, and it is 5 X 5. That would work for us here, I don't see any plant we have growing up to 12 feet, except for the moonflowers we always plant for the couple of trellises we have. This just might be the red I could get for my husband, it looks really pretty.
