I had a clivia for 6-7 yrs and like clock work it bloomed each late Winter/early Spring.
With my being the impulsive person I am, I gave it away. Now I want another. Has anyone any info. on where I can get another orange on at a reasonable price. White Flower Farms is too high for this pauper. Thanks, Lee
P.S. I'd like it to be of flowering size. I'm all ears!

In my neck of the woods, it's rare to see clivia offered locally, but I did find some recently. In fact, I hit the jackpot. Someone on DG mentioned finding some 1 gal. plants at a nursery at a nursery in Columbia, SC for $8. I had to go. When I got there, I found out that they were having their end of season clearance sale and they were now 1/2 price. Thumbs up I should have bought all that they had Hilarious! , but settled for 1 orange and 2 yellows. Big Grin Check your local sources or even the big box stores (just be sure to get there when the stock arrives). Best wishes on your search.

You're welcome. Someone pointed me in the right direction when I was looking/dying to replace the one I had, and I'm glad to return the favor.

I hope I can keep this one alive. It was a pretty decent size plant for $1.00!!! How often are you watering yours?

Well I am not so sure I have a clivia now. It shot up a bud while I was away camping this weekend and it does notlook what I think it should.

I read somewhere that they need a rest at cool temps around 50 degrees. Water only enough to keep the leaves from shribbling. When it starts growing again give it a little water and food. The flower bud should start growing soon thereafter. At that time you increase the water and fertilizer. This is my 1st year with mine.

Mine is not a clivia but Haemanthus albiflos. The leaves are quite a bit larger than what is shown here the bud is almost exactly the same thing. http://www.pacificbulbsociety....
It was a steal for 1.00 considering I just paid 15.00 for a pot of them.

Kevin, I've run across them at Lowes from time to time, and even picked up a yellow one there marked down to $5! I made the mistake of keeping my orange one in a room that was too warm last winter. It still bloomed in the spring, but the stalk stayed really short and the blooms were nestled down in the foliage. I received my orange one as a pup from a friend's plant, it bloomed about a year later.

Marie, at least what you have is something really cool and unusual! Do you see Clivia growing in the ground in your area?

Neal you are right I did get a very cool bulb for the price.

No I have not seen clivia growing in the ground around here. Maybe in town where it is warmer in the winter. We have been at 37 degrees the last 2 nights. I am going to watch the big box stores for them and try some near the house and one in a pot. I so want to accomplish growing one.

Gemini_Sage,
Your clivia will do better next yr. And finding one for only $5.00 is practically a steal!
You've a good and considerate friend to give you a pup. His/her doing so will make it do even better than having ordered it.
I know it's a long way off before it blooms again but let me know the outcome.
