EDIT: changed the names on 2 after digging around & finding their proper tags.

Between a never-ending winter, drought, wind, fire, & now tornadoes (luckily none in my area), I finally have some blooms worth posting!! Yay!! I took all these pictures either last night at dusk or this morning at dawn (only time I have time.. work sucks)

Let's start in the front yard. The miniature bed is in full swing! From Left to Right (as best as I can remember):

Vista (mauve), no-id dp, Incognito (mauve/yellow reverse), Rise n Shine (yellow), Sweet Arlene (very light lilac), Hot Kiss (pink), no-id white, (second photo) Bees Knees (yellow foreground), Heinrich Karsch (background pink), Winter Magic (whitish on the bottom right), (third photo) Heinrich Karsch (background pink), Bees Knees (yellow in front), Herbie (hidden under Bees Knees, bottom left), Winter Magic (whitish on bottom, extra full), white no-id, pink no-id, Vineyard Song (behind pink no-id), Ring of Fire (far right)

Toni that is incredible! Your roses go from zero to 60 in under 5 seconds, don't they?!
Even more impressive than you growing these in such a harsh climate, is that you work full time and maintain this by yourself. Wow wow wow.
Good show!

*Blush* *Blush* *Blush* *Blush* *Blush* *Blush*

My gardens are my stress relief. When I get home from work, throw out the dogs so they can go pee, then wander around looking at the roses, pulling weeds (and more weeds.. and more weeds.. and more weeds... I swear to friggin cawd that bindweed grows overnight!!! Through the weedblock!!), take pictures.. digging holes & admiring big fat worms... I even have a few resident robins who literally follow me around the yard knowing that I'm going to be disturbing the mulch & that's where the big worms are! I made the mistake early this spring moving some mulch & finding some kind of yucky nasty big white grubs & threw the grubs towards the robins. Now they follow me around almost like a puppy begging for a treat! Or I'll just sit there on the porch (well, I will as soon as the damned painter dude is done painting!!!! Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling ) watching the goldfinches & house finches on the feeders... I love it. But I hate that it's so damned hot right now so I can't really do much until after 7-8pm. Then I'm outside for 2-3 hours (usually until about 10pm where it's just way too dark to do anything), being skeeter food, weeding & watering... but I wouldn't change it for the world. And since I just drove through Eastern Colorado, through half of Kansas (to Hays, then south), through Oklahoma, & down into Texas last Saturday, I don't even want to live in a warmer climate! Too freaking hot & humid! Ugh!!! And windy!! OMG talk about wind!!!

Cinta - What I do is bury every rose exceedingly deep (the top of the pot if a potted rose a minimum of 2" below the surface level of dirt), mound the excess dirt around the canes so there's a volcano of dirt with the canes being the eruption, and then pile mulch on top of that. A minimum of 2-6" of mulch on every single rose. My yard is nothing but one giant mulch pile for the most part. But, after the mulch decays (2-3 years), the soil is SOOO rich!! And it's taken me at least 5 years of figuring out what I'm doing wrong and what I'm doing right to get them to grow. And even THEN it's still slightly hit & miss. In fact, one rose that I thought I had lost I dug around trying to find the tag.. I have to take pictures tomorrow morning (provided anything's left as we had a couple of VERY strong thunderstorms fly through here this evening), but my Sweet San Carlos (http://www.helpmefind.com/gard...) is a blooming idiot!

On a side note, I picked up 4 new roses today. One is definitely marked right.. Eyeconic (which one, I don't remember.. I think Pink Lemonade). The other 3 were actually marked by the nursery as "Mislabeled", so I got 3gal roses for $20, and then 20% off that! *happy dance!!* One was labeled Distant Drums, but I'm 100% sure it's Dolly Parton. Another was labeled JFK and I'm, again, 100% sure that it's Wild Blue Yonder. The last, I'm not too sure on. I was thinking Trumpter, but it has a scent and starts out more pink than orange. I'll take pix tomorrow morning (if anything's left on the bushes due to the storms). Thunder, lightning, winds, rains.. here I am, digging holes & getting soaked through & through putting in these new roses. I wanted to get them in before the rains ended!

Julia Child is a trouper down here. Wilts a little in drought, but perks right back up and blooms from Spring all the way into December some years.

Several years back, I saw a test garden in Oklahoma that had groups of 6-8 of many new roses. It was an extremely hot day, and only one group among 50 or so groups looked happy. I made a note to find that rose. The next year, it was introduced as Julia Child and I bought 3. It still stands out as an exceptional bloomer in extreme weather. Hurray!

I bought JC as a boxed bodybag from Costco years ago (.. 2010?). They came in boxes of 2 roses, all certified Weeks roses. I got Tuscan Sun & Golden Celebration, Julia Child & Ebb Tide, Daddy's Little Girl & Ruby Ruby. I've not seen Ruby Ruby since. Golden Celebration, Ebb Tide, & Daddy's Little girl all croaked (but Costco has the awesomest return policy!), but I still have JC, RR, & TS!

Some pix from this morning.. taking pictures in the dawn light can be a pain in the butt.

First, roses in the mini bed. That bed is just going crazy!

Ring of Fire (it GLOWS), Vineyard Song, Siena Vigorosa (new from Palatine)

Rosy Dawn, Vista / Rosy Dawn, Bees Knees (HUGE bush for a mini)
Thumb of 2013-06-26/Skiekitty/0536a9

Now for full sizes

Picante, Cardinal de Richelieu, Perfume Tiger

Sundowner, Outta the Blue (this was dead down to the ground due to winterkill), Cardinal Hume (the petals never open.. always stay closed like this)

Honey Sweet, Aromatherapy, Artistry

Koko Loko, Montezuma, Joseph's Coat (buried in a Magic Carpet spirea.. this is supposed to be a climber but has never gotten taller than 18")

Ice Girl, Orchid Masterpiece, & my neighbors' roses. No idea on what they are, but he's ripping them out next week. I would take them if I had a place for them! Such a shame... these roses have to be at least 25 years old.

PPal - You should try Bees Knees. That bush is HUGE for a mini. I posted this in the database, but here's a pic of the entire plant. It stands about.. honestly.. 3.5-4ft tall and is about 3 across. It's a little leggy at the bottom, but that's why I have other plants around it (I didn't plan it that way, it just happened).

The other really big mini in the background is Incognito. Again, another huge mini, pretty leggy though. She stands probably about the same size.
