How's this summer treating you? How are your gardens? Anyone having good veggie production?
We should have some terrific blooms out there in our gardens, in amongst the wilted foliage. Let's get some pictures posted for everyone to enjoy.

Wow! Your yard is both beautiful and productive. Your peppers are going gangbusters!

As much as I've been working lately, my own yard has been sorely neglected. I went out a little while ago to get some good bloom photos, and instead got sidetracked trying to revive all my thirsty plants. When they recover from their wilted states, I'll get some photos posted. In the meantime, here's a good example of how NOT to grow cucumbers! *Blush*

Thank you. I grow a lot of my herbs and veggies in containers. My soil has a lot of clay so in-ground gardening is reserved for other plants. Angry

Oops ... well, I have my fair share of that too ... maybe the cukes will come back with some water or are they too far gone?

How hot is it over there?

Red, do we ever have get-togethers here in TN? I'm thinking something similar to the Roundups on DG but maybe a different name for them would be in order. I'm all ears!

The cukes already on the plant are toast, but maybe if I treat the plants better, I can get some non-mutant cukes before the season is over. Likewise, if I pick my past-their-prime-almost-woody green beans, the new crop will be edible. I have failed as a veggie gardener this year.

It would be fantastic to have a get-together. We need to see what Jo is up to these days. She helped get the original DG Roundups going, and often comes back east for the one in KY. Her son is in Crossville, so we've claimed her as an honorary Tennessean. I'll ask Dave if we'll have a separate "Roundup" forum here, or if the threads will stay in the state/regional forum where the event is going to be held.

I'm back with an answer - that Dave is fast! If we want to organize an event, we should keep the threads here in the TN forum.

That was fast!! Perhaps get-togethers should have another name besides Roundups since this is a totally separate website and is not connected with DG? Maybe a new thing would draw new people?

I am on the list as a "maybe" for the KYRU in Sept. but don't know if I'll make it to that. I would really like to see something going here in TN. Surely there are others in our state who might be interested. I have a very active gardener friend here and I'm hoping she will visit this thread and get in on the discussions. Rolling my eyes.

Yes, we definitely need to draw all our TN gardeners together again here at ATP. We've become scattered as so many of us were maintaining our individual Cubits on all different topics.

For a TN gathering, Nashville seems like a nice central location, or maybe Crossville if Jo wants to organize it. Sometime this fall (not as hot, good for plant swapping)? We would need to be aware of football games, as they tend to create traffic & hotel problems.

Y'all are going to have to back me up if hubby gets worried about me going to a special Rendezvous! Rolling on the floor laughing (And, yes, I had to pull out a dictionary to get the spelling right. Sigh... I used to be such a good speller.)

My hubby is ill, and I am the sole caregiver so I cannot go that far. Nashville is only an hour away and maybe more do-able. I need to be somewhere I can drive home fairly quickly if need be. But that's just my issue and the world doesn't revolve around me ... if others want to go to Crossville, then you all have a ball. I'll find something else. I'm looking for more of a day gathering anyway, meetup and get acquainted, eat, laugh, swap some plants and have some fun, and so forth ... and not a 3-4 day shindig or anything too expensive. The KYRU is only 50 miles from me (closer than parts of Nashville actually) so I see no need to replicate that as it's already within my driving distance if I go there. But, again, that's just me. You all do whatever you want to do since I'm often "iffy" anyway.

Maybe you could call them Gardener Gatherings or something catchier ... no offense to the Southwest Forum. Big Grin

It sounds like the KYRU is the right answer for this fall. We can start thinking about something in TN for the spring. We'd want it to be late enough spring that plants have emerged from dormancy, and we have a chance to pot up some things.

A new daylily for me, H. 'Milk Chocolate' ... looking very good in today's heat and broiling sun. Thumbs up

So pretty! So the Milk Chocolate doesn't melt in the sun, huh? Sticking tongue out

I really meant to take some yard photos today, but I'm just fried. I've spent too much time lately toiling in the mid-90 temps, and yesterday's heat index over 105 just sucked the life out of me. I've been trying to recover and take care of things inside today. Thankfully, we had a little bit of rain overnight, so I didn't have to water today.

Tee, I am trying to place you in my mind. You are in Clarksville aren't you? You have changed your name from the posts at DG haven't you? I think i know you but want to make sure. The fact that you are your husband's caretaker is what I am going by. Put me on the list for anything happening in TN. One of our DG members from TN used to have gatherings in Knoxville and I went to a couple of them. I don't know if she still does that or not.

The KYRU is the only one I know about near here. I have been to every one of those plus the first one in Crossville. I know that there are some things going on over in West TN from time to time. I prefer staying closer to home than that though. I will be in Clarksville in the near future. We have dear friends there that we don't see too often and we like to plan a trip to see them occasionally.

Jo, you really get around don't you? You are all over the internet it seems. How in the world do you find time to be in so many forums all over the place? Oh, my Houston sis was here and slept in your bed a week or so ago. I told her you would be the next one in the bed in September and then she would be back in it in December. You two are the only ones who ever sleep in that bed. I guess it just belongs to both of you. It is never going to wear out that way is it?

Elena -- Tee is my nickname and part of my given name. On the Blue Gardens Cubit, Sharon started calling me Song... and I liked that a lot. Think I just might adopt that as my complete moniker. My name in French means 'Song of Joy'.

As far as get-togethers, I know the Mid-South group makes an annual 2-day nursery run to Rita Randolph's nursery in Jackson, TN along with nurseries around Memphis and other places. They stay overnight somewhere on Friday. I had hoped to make that this year but couldn't. Crying

Hopefully there will be some get-togethers for this group and hopefully centrally located. Que sera, sera.

Yah, Red, it was awful outside yesterday. I dashed out to refill the birdbaths and snapped a couple of pics. I didn't last 5 minutes. We did get a thunderstorm last night with a half-inch of rain. That was definitely welcome! No watering this morning .... yippeeeee!!

It was a heat index of a mere 100 today, so much more reasonable than the 105 of the past 2 days. Practically needed a sweater! Rolling my eyes. Got the mowing & trimming done, and some watering.

Here are a few things that are looking good:
