I bought this last year (2012). It has the metal Weeks Roses tag on it and the plastic tag both stating Perfect Moment. Last year, when I bought it from the nursery, it was in one of those 3gal Week's Roses containers AND had a bloom on it. That's why I chose that particular plant.

Ever since then, it's bloomed .. well, weird. This is this month's bloom from "Perfect Moment". It's never bloomed true-to-what-it's-supposed-to-look-like.


Any idea on why it's blooming only washed out blooms? The plant itself is healthy enough, about 2.5-3' tall and about 2-2.5' across. And looking at one of Sue's photos from HMF (http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...), the leaves are not right. The ones she's showing aren't as leathery looking as mine.

Those don't look like the same rose to me at all. Both quite lovely, but different.

The photo you posted looks more "Peace" than Perfect Moment. Was the flower on the plant when you bought it what Perfect Moment is supposed to look like? Perfect Moment has matte, dark green foliage which is highly susceptible to mildew. Are you sure this is the plant you bought in the 3 gallon last year? There isn't anything else which would explain why matte (not glossy), dark green leaves would now be lighter green and glossier, nor why the saturated pigments of Perfect Moment would now look like Peace.

The rose was in full bloom when I bought it, which is why I bought it because I've had mismarked roses before. I don't get mildew here as I don't have any humidity to speak of. No mildew, no blackspot, no rust, no slugs, no JB, etc etc etc. Just extreme winters that kill everything. And yes, I'm very sure that it's the plant I bought last year because I don't have Peace. I don't particularly care for Peace and is not one rose I have in my garden. I can take pics of the plastic Weeks tag along with the metal tag tomorrow.

I believe you! The ONLY other explanation makes even less sense...Week's budded Perfect Moment on Peace. Perfect Moment died, leaving Peace to grow back from the roots. Had the original Week's produced the plant, I would be certain that could not be the case. But that plant would have been created by the "new Week's" and there is really no way to know how things are done now.

On Sunday I can dig down & expose the bud union to see if the union had died or if its alive. I didn't think that Peace was grown own-root.

Peace is available from specialty nurseries own root. It wasn't one the old Week's offered own root, but who knows what is being done with either Week's or J&P in their new "versions"? The old rules no longer apply. Both of the original concerns produced all of their stock. I know J&P has been reduced to purchasing and resellling. It is entirely possible some of that goes on with the new Week's, too. Who knows? But, nothing else explains how a Perfect Moment could suddenly produce entirely different foliage and flower types. A shift in color I can see. Roses and most other plants sport (mutate) but never so completely it changes the texture and color of the foliage and bloom. Sporting traditionally alters only one main characteristic at a time, such as from bush to climber; changing flower color from traditional Peace to Chicago Peace or Flaming Peace; from large size to mini or vice versa, but never the entire plant and all its parts at once.

Around here, Perfect Moment is referred to as "Perfect For a Moment".
Maybe you just missed the right moment.

Kordes, who created the rose, said it was named this because, "there is this one, perfect moment..." Tell you anything? I was impressed with it as an AARS trial rose. In that garden, the blooms were so large, one completely covered your hand. It was husky and gorgeous because it was fed heavily and sprayed regularly. Cut back on the food and don't spray and you have to really scramble for even the ONE perfect moment.

I agree, it doesn't look like Perfect Moment at all, not only is it lighter but it has too many petals. We have lots of images in our database too that pretty much all look the same, it's a pretty distinctive looking bloom. Even if it doesn't always have a perfect look.

I went & emailed Weeks Roses about this rose. It would be nice if I got a response. Was thinking that maybe it's Dream Come True? But, no, don't think so. I do agree w/Roseseek.. looks awfully like Peace, which is one rose I don't have. And that sounds reasonable as Peace is pretty close to Perfect Moment on the alphabet... (trying to come up with excuses here).

My mother grew Peace. I don't remember it having quite that many petals.

It can be quite full but you are right, maybe Toni's does have even more petals.

It's quite pretty, but no scent and not in my normal range of roses I buy. I may dig it out & sell it. Not sure yet. But I really want a *real* PM, not this washed out variety.

I always thought Peace had a very strong scent. This must be some other rose.

I think so too, it looks a bit more like an old fashioned bloom. I like it.

Peace, to my nose and in my climate, has a mild scent. It can also vary dramatically depending upon temps, water and food. The milder the temps, greater the water and food available, the larger and fuller the flower. In some cases, it can look like a yellow and pink hybrid perpetual, large, full, "buxom". I'm still inclined to believe you have Peace. Compare the foliage to photos on Help Me Find. That should help identify it easily. Perfect Moment's foliage is NOTHING like Peace's in texture or color.
