Hello All ...

I am in the market for a greenhouse that :

can withstand the elements in zone 5

Is not a nightmare to assemble

Reasonably priced ....

We saw a Rubbermaid greenhouse during the Region 2 Summer meeting, and though it wasn't the prettiest thing it was functional and looked like it would be easy to put up. (a little landscaping and it didn't look that bad). We came home and immediately looked for a source, but they don't make it anymore. darn ... searched the internet and Craig's List, but no luck.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome! Zone 5a, huh? I was born and raised in MIchigan but I live in GA now. All my family is in Michigan though.

I got my greenhouse on eBay. I looked a long time. I don't think there is such a thing as not a nightmare to assemble. Okay, our's wasn't really bad, but not simple either.

Mine has doors at both ends, is 10x20 with six roof vents and Dutch doors. I love it!

I also have a Charlye's 8x10 at my son's. Better made greenhouse and easier to assemble, in my opinion. We bought that one used so we had to take it apart and reassemble. Still wasn't too bad.

I also recommend Charley's. They arent cheap but they aren't overly expensive either. You get what you pay for with them. Their products are well built and they will be there to help you if you have questions. The greenhouse I bought from them about 6 months ago came with a whole book that was instructions on putting it together and had pictures that went with most steps. If you join Hobby Greenhouses Charley's give a discount... I think its 5%. http://www.hobbygreenhouse.org...

What do you want to "do" in your GH? Just over winter plants or actually grow ? Makes a difference in the type of GH you will require.

The main use would be to grow things from seed. (Vegetables, Tomatoes, Daylilies) I'd have a few things to over winter too, but nothing real tender, just iffy in My area of Michigan.

I saw a "Rion" that looked interesting at Costco's website ..... it would definitely be a splurge, but it comes with a lot of accessories. Any experience with that brand?

Thanks for the links, I'm checking them out now.

I have had a Rion for years, it has been nearly 8 years that I have had it and I had to replace a few parts that blew off in a blizzard, but they have tremendous Customer Service and they sent me my replacements free. I have no idea if that is normal, but I did not question it. I has been standing with no problem with hurricanes, tropical storms, snow storms but I have learned to put up a wind breaker on the East side since most of our strong winds come off the ocean and so before the snow starts, we put up a few pieces of plywood on some stakes and it helps keep the panels protected. They come down in the summer and none of the hurricanes have done any damage to the GH and we lost trees, etc. in some of them. Just thougnt you may like to hear that I would recommend them. They are worth the money for sure.

I too have a rion greenhouse I think 3 yrs.old. So far I have no problem with it and I have about 4 panels and about 6 roof panels extra in the basement. When we got the greenhouse before we check each box and make sure all the parts is there and no damage. If we see little bent/damage we took pictures and send it in for replacement. My husband said it should be in perfect condition since it new and we pay a good money for it. I only use it so far to over winter tropical plants. I rarely use electric heat last year and hoping I could do the same this year. I have two oscillarating fan I there to keep air movement.
