Yesterday we were in the low 90s and for whatever reason I decided to dig up one of my Adenium and try potting it. I think I must have been out of my mind. It took me 3 hours, a strained muscle in my arm and a bucket of sweat, but I got the sucker out. All that work before I realized I didn't have a pot big enough for such a monster. I got the bathroom scale and it weighed 87 lbs. Here it is while in the ground.

The next picture is I was just trying to show the caudex

Toward the end of the day I found an old pot that just might work, so I drove to Lucky Sumo and bought some "sumo soil", they're own special Adenium mix. The pot is ugly needs sanding and painting, but I'm too tired now. I shouldn't have watched them pot a smaller of my Adeniums. I got too gutsy and can only hope this guy survives.

Having done it, I much better understand how these guys can go so long without watering. I think not only is the caudex filled with water, but I bet those thick roots are too.Oh, here is a quick picture of the ugly pot it went into, it's upside down because I had to drill a lot of holes in the bottom, by the time I wrestled the thing into the pot and filled with "Sumo soil" I didn't have it in me to take another picture. Maybe another day.

wow - why did you not want to leave it in the ground? You could have raised it a bit to show the caudex.

Hilarious! Hetty,it was getting so big and crowding out the DR on either side of it, and I'd have the same amount of work to do to raise it up! I'be raised it up every year for 8 years. A good argument against planting in the ground. But that's still my preference.

Hi and hello Doris, your so right, and unfortunately not always for the better, some say aging is better then the alternative, but some time I gotta wonder. I also try to get on and read and keep up with things, I'm getting a little better at being a bit more constant about that anyway. I miss all you guys (meani9ng guys and gals Thumbs up )

Well I just had my 88th birthday and what is amazing is how much this last year has changed everything, I passed my driver license OK but now I never drive after dark and never out of town by evening. cannot work in yard like I am used too but still love my plants inside.

Doris, I'm only 66 and I quit driving after dark years ago! I have a rule to be home by sunset. As a teenager, I would have never believed this of myself!

Hy ya, Jim!!

This one is supposed to be 'black'. Too much sun, or something.

Thank you Hetty.
Melissa have you sold any of your plants or are you still increasing them. I know how much work you are doing to keep them looking good.

I spend anywhere from an hour to all day with those monsters. Some are looking great, some kind of, umm, hide from me in the back. Then I have to fiddle with them. I am NOT tidy and organized!

Not selling yet. I just found a rich dark purple double on Siam Adenium's site, GROAN! And I found some seeds of a radically squat, fat little plant, seeds $2.20 each! From Malaysia. On my facebook page, am unable to post the photo here.

My deck---
